Pirate storyline?

Has any of the streamers or YouTubers try the pirate side of the game? seems like everyone i see is going good guy, Is it possible to do the pirate story in the first system ?

Yes, you can start pirate right away. And there are several 'nasty' branches and options you can take in the story, even in the first system. In fact the last few missions in the first system can play out differently depending on what you choose...

it's piqued my interest, ever since I responded to a distress signal where the trader promptly got popped, only to explode like a loot pinata, so I still got paid well, also it would be nice to be able to sell some of the contraband.

also being bad is fun.

You CAN sell the contraband - check Outsiders stations (and if you're pirate-positive, pirate stations). Depends on the government and economy.

I may try a pirate positive run to go alongside my current save later today, outsiders stations are deemed "neutral" and thus you can safely dock at those, you just need to avoid Militia and Citizenry ones.

So if you want to you can start the game and just start pirating away?

There are no carriers in this game. Or at least not at this time. Room for a DLC, Expansion or Sequel.

When the game is finally released, I plan to do a normal playthrough (non-pirate) on twitch, but I plan to record a pirate playthrough as well to post on Youtube. Cause I'm crazy like that. :P

I was playing last night and I picked up a few missions from the outsiders and since they have red devil friendly missions. it seems it would be possible to farm at least red devil standing to allow you to land at their stations and get their ships neutral to you.
