Components damage system
Today Devs tweeted that all components of a ship may suffer decreased performance when damaged.

Now I ask: it's a linear decreased performance (example less speed because engine is damaged), or we could expect random effects like a turret that overheat more quickly than usual, a turret which fails to shoot one time every three, a shield which randomly fail and so on?

Not related: I know that you are two Devs only. But even if the game is still not released, seems that there are already several ideas for a dlc. Please consider it, even if you already said that except patches and support you (may) prefer to develop others new games.

Thanks.

It depends on the component.
Damage to a turret mount increases the heat cost of firing it linearly, but introduces a random element of misfire as well, so it's erratic. There is a special 'misfire' sound, so you'll know when it's happening (and it will be pretty obvious in the cadence of fire as well)

Steering and engine impairment is mostly linear, as is shield and deflector recharge.

You can also buy a repair bot which will repair subsystems in flight (slowly) - but it cannot repair hull or reactor damage, which always has to be repaired at a station, and does not repair while you are taking damage.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I noticed some of the components like the repair bots in your amazing video.

That is good to know, my biggest question now is, will you post more videos showing us some of the stuff you didn't show in your last one?

I think that they will preserve the surprise effect for the release....

Well, in a couple of days we won't have to, because review copies and streaming keys go out..........

can a component get so damaged that it will get destroyed and you will have to purchase/ find a new one? Or will ir just stop functioning until repaired?

On one hand it's more realistic to have it so that if the damage is so great it is essentailly "blow off" (kind of like the dish on top of the millenium falcon) and force you to be more careful / tactial in firefight. But also somewhat more annoying if it is easy to take component damage and may get sort of redundant for gameplay to be running back after every medium to high risk fight to repair.

guess it depends what you cupof tea is.

Originally turrets blew off. But it WAS super annoying. So instead, the turret mount gets damaged which impairs the turrets, and they never blow off.
