Who do you consider to be the best merc for hire?

I read over the guide here. I was wondering if you agree with it about which mercenaries are best? Who do you think is/are the best mercs?

I've only just reached the second system and have got through 3 mercs so far. The old man, robot and the Irish woman. Can't say I've noticed much difference, but then I'm probably playing it wrong.

You can find a robot merc in high tier systems which is probably the best.

None of the mercs are that great. But as noted by @Geek, the higher tech level systems would have the best mercs since their ships would be the highest tech level (per the system).

So a merc on TL 1-2 system with a TL 2 ship would be good in that system but fail on higher TL systems.

I never use mercs as they are not necessary but I am guessing you can bring the mercs to other systems. Otherwise ignore my comment above.

Gotta keep upgrading them as you find them. Early game, Skiza is the best. He's got a yellow armor and face helmet. The more expensive the Merc is, the better they'll be.

Most of the map is randomlly generated, so the names will vary with each playtrhough.
