Finished the game - anything similar out there?
Now I have a RG sized hole to fill, I was wandering what you all may have moved to that had a similar feel.

I have considered Starpoint Gemini 2 and Everspace 2 but can't be sure .... I have downloaded the Demo of the latter, it's fun but the ship lacks the heft of an RG vessel.

Thanks!

Hey Bonusgold - good call.... I had forgotten I actually had this (the boxed version)!
I had a rummage around and found a folder I had backed up that had loads of mods for it too. Wowser - at this rate 2022 is going to be a bumper space game year!

Cheers :)
The game is supposed to have been inspired by 2d ship to ship battle series/game, so those are probably more similar to RG than most other space games. Hell, even the ship warefare stuff in Ass Creed games with pirate ships has the same "feel" of this game.

At endgame, I know elite dangerous has a similar system, lots of ships with hardpoints and it becomes a pretty hardcore capital ship to capital ship battle.

When I started playing Rebel Galaxy, the game it most reminded me of was Darkstar One. It's not as good as Rebel Galaxy but it might be worth a look.

It says Windows XP. Does it play on Windows 10 without mucking around trying to get it to work?

I saw this one: It's more like No Man's Sky but you might like it.

Still not release tho.

Get DarkStar One in GOG, Freespace 2 has a Fan made Babylon Mod that is Free! Play the original, I never had such an intense feeling! Those huge spaceships, awesome feeling!

If you don't mind 2D, I highly recommend Space Rangers. It tries to do many things, get some really right and not so much in others, ends up being greater than the sum of its parts anyway. It's single player, but AI players roam and progress as if following the same rules as you. You'll meet the same pilot after a while and see that they've bought new parts of even an entirely new ship. You can hire other AI players to be a wingman or even respond to AI players requesting to hire you. Trade like a merchant, harass merchants like a pirate, right the invasion like a mercenary, or anything in between. Lots of fun!

S.P.A.Z. 1 & 2 (Space Pirates And Zombies) are also really good and similar-ish.

SPAZ 1 is top down view with lots of features similar to RG as far as customization and progression goes.

SPAZ 2 has the similar systems again, but THIS one is from the same perspective as RG (that same sort of 3rd person, 2.5D sort of broadside battler)

Try Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Same universe, new ships, 3D flight model https://rebel-galaxy.com/

A very old one now, but it has its charms => Tachyon : the Fringe.
The voice of Bruce Campbell, different ships and equipment, a passable storyline but nifty space visals, two opposing factions to join so at least one bit of replayability, some ideas that are not "bad" but not often seen since (like generator on the hull of ships to disable them, or the fastest ship kitted for even more speed will outrun missiles, very fun indeed).
Very small part of my childhood, yet a part with found memories that lasted to this day :p

STARSECTOR - IT'S ALSO MODDABLE. By yourself too cause it uses XML files and stuff. You should check it out on YT for a review.

There is the "X" Games, big and time consuming but its IMO simpler than say ELITE:D.
I also recommend Galaxy on Fire 2 HD which is more like Rebel Galaxy Outlaws than RG.

I gave Between the Stars a try, based on the recommendations here. Neat space game. Still needs a bit of polish, and I could see the dice rolls not being to everyone's tastes. Having crew with stats and the ability to influence events through building them is a neat addition that RG was lacking.

I would recommend only buying it on sale, though. It goes on sale often, and the game just doesn't justify its full price tag to me.
