Hardened Steel Pickaxe, Is it worth it?
Title says it all... Haven't gotten around to using the precious steel my buddy alchemist has helped me get (On a slow x2 server) as it is being used for other means.

Is the damn thing worth the 4 steel ingots to make? Does it double the speed of mining and digging tunnels? Would like to know this before I go and blow 48 flux on a paper weight

If I didn't need steel for locks, I wouldn't worry about flux at all. The amount of effort that goes into making steel is entirely disproportionate to its usefulness.

Thats actually not true... Making steel ingots and then melting them down to what you need is actually rather efficient. There needs to be a system of progression rather then WHAM BAM... you can make it all... Which steel fills that void for now.

Plus the Steel sickles doubles the speed of a herbalist gathering his herbs... which well pays for itself...

Does the hardened pickaxe do the same for mining and tunneling is the question

Also if inter-herbalist trading is going on, you can net a lot of flux...

You must be a masochist then, because the skull-splittingly inefficient interface for herbalism makes me want to nosedive off my roof. The current design is an artificial time-suck, and it needs to go.

To each his own... Its an alpha game, I do not expect perfection...
This is deviating from the topic at hand and doesn't really answer the question. There is other threads where you can post your views and opinions on steel though might want to check those out.

No, I made and use a Hardened steel pickaxe, and there is no noticeable difference. a Pickaxe will work just as good.

Terraform LVL?
Terraform multiplier on server?
Did you make sure to turn off GM mode if you used it? (makes everything 1 second)
Did you try mining and tunneling?

Will probably check this out when i get the chance. Cause if your right... thats rather bum-kiss and probably should be adjusted to that of like the sickle...

I am not GM and would not use it. Terraforming lvl is locked on 60.., but this all doesn't matter. Same character, same ore vein. Equip one, and swing away, equip other and swing away. Server settings and char skill is same for both.

So yes, at this stage looks like something that requires tweeking still.

Just my 2 cents, but I am betting the difference is in the rate at which it breaks.

Possible could have a lower durability loss, yes, but then still not worth it. 100ql Iron Pickaxe lasts long enough.
Kage 16. okt. 2014 kl. 8:58
Yeah can do well enough durability wise with a 100q iron pickaxe... got enough stone for my front walls and whatnot like 20k or 30k+ of rocks... with one pick axe...

The issue is the speed... if it doesn't increase it... then not really worried about getting it. Even if it were to be better durability than 4 or even 6 pickaxes... still not worth it...
