Prerequisite skill capped, can't forge?
Hi everyone,

Just have been fooling around in a random server, getting to know the game mechanics. I just finally managed to make a furnace and to smelt some iron ingots. My smelting is now at 29, and it says it won't raise the level anymore since I lack the prerewuisite skill level.

Does this mean, that I simply can't forge anything from the ingots I made? Do I have to find a smith who can make things out of my ingots and trust him to not just run the sword through my throat, the sword he just made from my precious ore?

You need to have your mining at 60 to advance, until then nope

Okay, so my character can still reach higher level in smelting, I just have to raise mining again first?

Thanks for the help!

to raise any skill to 30+, you hafta have the skill before it at 60

I see! Thanks

For a moment I was worried that your starting stats locks you into a certain role.

The Prerequisite Skill requirement refers to the skill you had to level before getting access to smelting. In this case its mining. There are 5 tiers to a skill, at 0,30,60,90 and 100. Getting 30 in a skill unlocks the next tier of THAT SKILL and unlocks the FIRST TIER OF THE NEXT SKILL. To Unlock the next tier of any skill you must be at least 1 TIER AHEAD in the preceding skill.

So in your example you cannot progress to >29.99 skill in smelting until mining is at skill level >60 or tier3.

This is all assuming that you are not skill capped due to sever settings.

the way you describe it is the way i originally read it, as well. maybe its just not "working properly" yet, but, i can get 60 in, say, terraforming, then get 100 in construction materials preperation. in other words, once the pre-req skill reaches 60, you can raise the next skill in that tree all the way to 100. so, you dont need to raise prospecting, for example, to 90 to get mining to 60. get a skill to 60, and you can max the next skill. again, dunno if this is intentional or not, but thats the mechanics we have atm

Yeah I have a feeling its all more complex than what I posted and that there are some hidden values we cant see. Maybe if the message about requiring the prerequisite skill, had the vautle and name of what we needed.

"cannot raise skill level..Requires mining 62" or something like that.
