Torque 3D: Oh, wait they started custom coding and rewriting this engine 4 years ago.
I wanted to get LIF to support the development but then I noticed that they use the Torque 3D engine.
That piece of junk was already a pain in the rear while GarageGames still developed it and was left to rot as open-source software. Torque doesnt even support 64bit executables, which limits clients and servers to mere 4GB RAM to adress. (Tough limit for a survival-sandbox server like LIF:YO)

Theres so much more whack with Torque (texture handling, threading, ...) that I cant understand why a developer would choose this pile of garbage for a demanding project like LIF while there are many other pretty cheap and much better options available.

Im very curious if they will try to build the MMO on Torque, too. For now I will hold back and keep watching if or when the server performance hits the obvious brickwall.

(Yes, Torque is free, but that doesnt make it also a good and future-proof choice for a professional project!)

I would take more stuff to do in a game over better graphics anyday.

For instance, the ability to recycle all of my broken tools and recover some of the mats used to make them. I am easily sitting on 10 iron picks, 10 iron shovels, 10 iron saws, axes, sickles, etc...

you already can, build a bloomery and get it to 2000

we need optimization. The game has low fps. Games like battlefield 3 works perfectly on my pc (i7 920 geforce 650ti boost 2gb 8gb ram)

battlefield 3 is approaching 5 years old and can run on half those specs... stop saying your computer is so wonderful game needs optimization and give some useful feedback to the developers you selfish ♥♥♥♥, thank you... keep up the good work guys game runs fine once you tweak your settings a bit, theres more important things to patch at the moment like the mutex errors and other random crashes

i am, personally, more interested in engine functionality, not speed or super graphics. but we have a dedicated team mate as a rendering programmer. he trying to make the LiF graphics better.

I, too, am interested in engine functionality. Can we get some modding support going already so I can stop using ollydbg? :p

"modding support" could have a consequences such as exploiting. but we are not against all modding, make a proposal and send it to Bobik. i'm sure, that he will carefully treat with care.

have i5 4.6GHz, 16 GB 1600 CL8, dual 290X@1120
game runs liek rubbish

needs optimization

bye :Khappy:
i have an i5 2.4 ghz and an nvs 3100m video card with 8 gb of ram and game runs fine for me, tweak your settings
1080p fullscreen, no vsync, MLAA, normal lighting, no shadows, no reflect, small objects 400m, big objects 1000m, huge objects 2000m, trees detail 0.40, objects detail 2.00, grass 50m, no PostFX.
Runs fine when no buildings in sight, borderline low fps with small village in sight.

Too much for that rig? What are the sliders for then, anyway?
OK what the hell. I get DRASTICALLY better fps when I ENABLE shadows and reflections vs disabled. wad?
Keep on Topic.

I have to admit that Torque is not the best engine. There are definetly better options, even if this one is customazible. I prefer the CryEngine or something similar, but the license is kinda expensive. I am sure they are by now able to afford something better.

Look for instance at Kingdom Come. It is using the CryEngine and you do get lots of support from the devs. I am sure it isn't the best option for this game, because the LiF devs are trying to make something great that needs lots of coding, but the CryEngine gives you more possibilities.

I would prefer even a complete new Engine because I am kinda dissapointed with the terrain modification, for instance look at Minecraft or 7 Days to Die.

When you say enable, do you mean the checkbox is checked or are you actually looking at the world and seeing the shadows present? Checkboxes inverting their meaning is a known issue.

Well ♥♥♥♥, now I have to relearn my Cyrillic. :p

But seriously, modding is more or less inevitable with how exposed the inner workings of the game are. I'm just concerned that if Bitbox doesn't publish something, an amateur like me will get started on the modding infrastructure instead and Mistakes Will Be Made.

Minecraft has, and always had, a far more primitive terrain engine than pretty much anything else on the market. 7dtd *terrain* can't do anything LiF terrain can't. Don't confuse engine functionality with what's avaliable to players in an early alpha release.

only difference between 7dtd and this terrain is the shape of hte voxels beneath it 7dtd uses diamond voxels, lif uses cubes

If LiF uses voxels, they are the strangest implementation of voxels I've ever seen. Tunnels though, yes, those are voxels.

e: voxels do not have shape, 7dtd simply chooses to smooth edges in such a way that they appear diamond-shaped.

im just pointing out the way terrain deforms between the 2 games.. its diamonds in 7d and more tile locations in lif

I'd like to see the addition of LiF using Simul - trueSKY[simul.co]
