is your previous skill at 60?
once the skill is unlocked you can do the next in the chain actions starting at the 0 tab to raise that one.
EDIT: Once you have the correct base skill, clicking on the log will open the actions option to saw billet, saw board saw construction log

Ah, so theres a minimum skill level to unlock very basic carpentry, humm i will level my logging up to 60 then, i have 13 atm :(

open your skill book with L
See the chains going from left to right, those are the steps associated with each further skill. you can lock them at levels or set them to move up or down.

If this is the case then I'm probably done with this game. I worked my way up to 30... 29.97 actually... and it was tedious, annoying, and way too time consuming. This was from pulling one piece of bark at a time.

When I should have hit 30, it tells me I lack the prerequisites but then doesn't tell me what I need. I checked that L menu and it shows I am 29.97/31.xx. The attitbutes associated are strength and constitution.

If I'm needing 60 in Forestry first (I'm at 51)... screw that nonsense. It takes FAR too long to level. I'm not trying to master anything in seconds. I'm not trying to build a 8 level home in the first 20 minutes. I made a saw out of a branch and rocks... I should be able to cut a log in half.

I could go into the woods right now, and build a crappy cabin with just stacking and tying branches. I want a game here, not a second job.

Then get on a server with a high skill point multiplier.

I went on standard servers... the "standard" shouldn't be that low that I need some souped up server to level. The amount earned is ABSURD. That's like telling someone they should play a modded version of the game because the vanilla sucks. That may be... but the vanilla shouldn't suck.

Some people have lots of free time and want to work towards something. If you don't want that, then go to another server. That's why this version was released so people can play how they want.

They're not building this game for YOU, they're building their vision. And then hopefully people will like what they've made and play it.

it does take time. with the default at 1.0. I agree it can be crazy, but not so bad once you get a feel for it. But it will take some time. The numbers are also driven by those attribute stats and your characters current condition.

Well their "vision" is 20/60 when it could be 20/20 if they didn't do certain things. I'm not asking for a game to be catered to me... they're going to realize the default standard is a problem when more people come through here to complain.

The whole purpose of testing is to find balance problems. This is a balance problem. Without modifying anything... changing any settings... this is a problem.

Come on my server bud, its set to 0.1 skillgain. You think its slow where you play now? :D Also permadeath, you die once, character is GONZO.

My server is a 100% hardcore server.

Well you can certainly voice your opinion and offer constructive criticism. I was simply offering an alternative to your current predicament.

Im in the same shoes as you but I can't even lever forestry either, I keep getting "prerequisite skills too low" ... its the first ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ skill ...

However, as for you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, its takes no time at all to get the experience needed, if you think its too slow, jump on a server with faster skill prgression ... tit

it takes about 10 seconds to collect a branch. Each branch gives .060 skill. So get it up 30 take about 500 branches. Takes about and hour and a half, and you get 50 fences of material out of it. Is an hour and a quarter really that bad to level up a skill entirely?

But anyway, a 5x quicker way is to collect sprouts - each gives .30 skill gain... But you really should be questioning if you want to play this game if you're impatient.

I play on a server where the skill progression is 1.0 and everyone likes it. It adds a certain sense of achievement to building things. Might I note I've been on it for a week, playing about 2 hours a day on weekdays, and I've already unlocked some of the furthest skills. It isn't that hard.
