Life is Feudal YO dedicated server in tools?
So I am thinking fo buying a two pack, but I want to make sure I can set up a dedicated server without buying a third copy.

I run a third computer with a dedicated Steam account for being a server for both my home or my friends.

The instructions I found say to go to "library-tools- life is feudal" in Steam to download a dedicated server, but I don't see it there. Do I need to buy the game to see it in tools? Do I need a third copy for my dedicated computer/server?

Or can I get it to work without buying a third dedicated copy? Thank you.

yes, first you must buy this game

Nope, you don't need to buy another copy. You should try to search one more, dedicated servers should be available even if you haven't bought the game

You need a third copy. You need to buy the clients, and a client for the server-machine. The dedicated server is a kind of addon to the client.

To make it clear: You only get the dedicated server if you buy the client.
AND: You cannot run the client and the dedicated server at the same time (under one steam account)

Can I install the server on my dedicated computer and run it without being logged into Steam, or is there no way to get around hosting and playing by having to purchase two licenses?

no way to get around - i tried it myself, because i wanted to run the dedicated server on my notebook - so it can run 24/7 and the client on my gaming pc, but as this would need 2 licenses for LIF i didnt.
I really hope they change it, so that the dedicated server is free - or at least usable while the client is running.

Thank you for the information.

That is sad. Many games put their servers under steam tools.

Since I am looking to play with my son locally and invite friends to get the game, this really doesn't work for me.

I can't justify buying 3 license to play locally with 2 people. I really wanted to get this, learn the game, and get ready for the mmo. I hope they change the server accessibility.

The feedback I am getting in this thread is that you DO have to buy the key in order to run a server AND you CAN'T run a server and game at the same time.

Do you intend to include a free copy of the server on steam tools so that we can buy the game and play it on one computer but have the server on a different computer? I know such a system would work for me and I would end up buying a two-pack and probably have a system set up that I could tempt friends to also buy keys. :tgrin:

Hey guys you are wrong. You can host a server and play it with one licence.

Simply use Steamcmd to download and install it.

Your account will only be used while download.

Can you have server on different computer?

It is possible to do without buying the game. You can do it on a different computer (though it needs to be windows I think) and you do not even really need a steam account to do it. Use steamcmd (directions found here https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD). The Life is Feudal app id is 320850. You can log in as anonymous to download and install it.

You are not done yet though, now you must read the readme file found in the download directory. Follow the directions to install and config MariaDB and then you should be good to go.

Sold! I will get the 2-pack. Thank you! I used stemCMD a while back, so I need to refresh my memory. I didn't think there were IDs for games that didn't show up in tools.

I learn something new everyday. Thank you,

Will try it on the weekend. @devs: This is something that should be stickied on the front page of the forums. (not this thread, but a howto with the steamcmd, because without it, many users will try and fail to install a client and server with only one bought client - like me, and therefore might badly influence others who are on the verge of buying)
