Built a Hermit Shack: Now What?
I’m very new to this game, and am currently going it my own by the lake by the mountain. I finally finished my shack, and now I’m wondering what to build next. Is there a general recommended order of progression? What should I make next? I have my shack, a bench, a bedroll, a bark box, and a furnace (the one clay chimny thing that I can’t actually use yet), and some tools. I haven’t the faintest idea what my next priority should be.

Need tp look at you crafting progression, which you can bring up with the P botton you are going to need basics to survive make all your stone tools, place your personal claim, right next to your shack will keep other players from stealing from you while you are logged off, suggest you look at LFYO Wiki page and look at the video the first hours in game and they will give you great advice and tips

Wattle Fences help skilling, but not sure how usefull they are. Skill natural skill by picking berrys - seems me quickest way to skill it- and crafting by making reserve tools and bark boxes, gather plants once natural skill is over 30 and farming? available...

Yeah, I’ve been grinding my skills by working land and building huts, gathering materials and so on. It’s really annoying how you have to GM delete structures though. But that’s what I’ve been doing so I can get my construction high enough to actually build a small house. This game takes forever to do things by yourself, but I’m really enjoying myself :)

Also depending on server and building decay rate you should place a monument asap which prevents peeps from claiming your stuff etc. Also i find hunting and fishing then taming animals will help with exp - inspect every tree and plant because at some point your going to want higher Quality mats etc..

I’m currently on a private server, so I’m not worried about other players, though I tried out the monument, and had trouble getting it to actually cover my territory. I’ll have to try again. I’m looking forward to hunting, though I want to make a bow first. Hopefully that won’t take me too terribly long.

To unlock the kiln, gather clay and mold it into tiles, then build kiln, Saw hardwood billets and put in kiln, fire once to make charcaol. Charcoal is most efficent fuel in game. No worries on it, can pull charcoal out with equipped crucible later.

Practice easy skills, lift and move items, track animals to raise hunting., etc.

Palisade walls take 5 building logs, easy to build. Tall and will block any nice views.

Try to find as much level ground as you can, most things need to be built on level, flattened terrain. Pain in the arse.

Paving with stone will increase your construction skill.

I second the last comment - Practice all the skills and once you get to paving your going to need to get your construction and masonry skills high enough to build the better buildings .. and other skills like carpentry, procuration, forrestry and farming become urgent. Adter a certain point thers a long stretch if your net ready for certain buidings but need more skill to build others then Making partial walls or buildings then destroying them to build skill is useful when you have access to alot of say stone or trees.. btw your monument radious grows over time so at first its small. Good luck
