How does one get higher quality iron?

Higher quality miningpick would likely help, also I find that the deeper I go on the ironvein, the better the quality. Also, don't stack it, and when smelting, quality of tools also matter, hope that helped :)

I have one mine that does very deep. Much better quality iron there (80+)

I dont think quality of pick matters. I mined 100 quality ore with a stone pick.

remember when you smelt it the crappier the furnace or smelter the crappier the product same thing with the tongs and hammers.. everything goes into it that you touch it with with everything in crafting

Quality of iron is not so important anymore, cause of the new qualitiy system. With iron you get max 60 quality tools, with steel, max 80 an with vostaskus you get 100, Depends on skill and tools.
