go to a kiln with 20 billets if you can as many as you can hold is normally what I do but put the billets in there with spare on you to put more in then wait for the bar to get to full then make charcoal then use the charcoal in the furnace(pretend I used gammer throughout this text)
So like you've got all these ruined things around and it's an eyesore, as well as being rather annoying

Also Forging I would start with Nails to get your skill up. or you could make lots of handles and make knives with all those cruddy lumps.
