Hiring a worker or foreman?
When you hire a worker does the worker do anything on the site (such as dig a hole while you are getting materials or pick up material while I dig the hole or does the worker run any equipment at all) or is the worker just a monthly expense? I am fairly new to this game and I read the manual, but it wasn't very helpful except for the basics of the game. Just a note I am playing single player so I would like more info on hiring a worker or foreman and what he does. One other thing, when you hire a extra foreman, can you accept another contract without losing the new contact, while you are completeing the one I am already working on? Thanks for your time.

You can hire the worker to do sections of the project so that you don't have to. Go to the active jobs list, there is a worker icon on the right side of the job that when selected opens a popup listing length of time and profit made. Confirm and the worker will start doing the job. While the worker is on site you can't work on the site yourself. When the time is up the section of the job will be completed and you get paid. If you want to work on two projects at once (worker on one and yourself on the other) you will need a second foreman to oversee the work you do.

You need one foreman for every simultaneous contract, even for multi-player games.
For example, building the crawler crane requires a foreman, because it is a separate contract.

Worker does any job much faster than player would do. It is good for quick cash, but you don't get XP for stages completed by your worker.

The best use of worker is to assign him one construction stage, and do preparations for the next yourself, like buying and delivering supplies needed for subsequent stages(s)
