How do you turn that lantern off and on?
I've been pressing every button and can't get it to do anything.

Found it, hold the LS down and it does the same thing.

Jesus Christ, why do people still use keyboards? Can someone tell me what button on an Xbox 360 controller for PC to use?

And z isn't working either, nor shift.

Wait, it's L3, but it has to be dark to work.

Why do people still wonder why some people use keyboards? It's a matter of preference for most.:steamfacepalm:
Yeah, the game literally interrupts your play the instant you get the lantern to tell you how to turn it on and off. o.O
I know. The problem is that if you miss that or forget it your screwed, especially since it's such an unusual function. Me, I played maybe an hour of the DLC then went back to the main game, not to return until the main story was finished. So quit the condescension.

I think you're just too cheap to spring for a controller. But really it's like that irritation I get from asking a question that involves measurements, and the place I find the info has used metric units.

But really, try a controller for a time. You won't want to go back, especially if you like racing games. A keyboard gives you no control over how far your tires turn. They are either all the way turned or straight. But what really made me switch was when they started making camera orientation separate from directional controls in pretty much all shooters, both FPS and TPS. So much easier to move around now.
I have both and I have tried both. Still like the keyboard and mouse combo without a doubt.
I was like that for years myself. Sometimes it is better, no doubt about it. Right around the time xbox controllers for pc came around, I made the switch. That was when Tomb Raider made camera controls separate rather than automatic. TR has been crap ever since, with the exception of Underworld. At least for lovers of the original series.

Wow! I wasn't expecting that, Tim.

Just how will the community react?

Some people, like me, can't stand to play many games with a controller. I only enjoy let alone can actually play only sports, fighting, driving games with a controller. I simply can't take the sluggish view and movement direction changes that feel and look like they are from a slowed down video or something (kind of like AC Unity's gameplay works - you have to wait for random animations to end and the character to turn and so on). Even watching good gamers play these games with a controller is not very enjoyable when the crosshair wonders around instead of the precision and speed of a mouse. A mouse can be moved at any speed I want and the crosshair follows it exactly - like an actualy weapon would. A controller on the other hand works by my telling it to move (or turn) toward a direction while my hand stays still - it just doesn't feel right. Believe me, I've tried. I hate it, I absolutely can't stand it. And I do have an Xbox One controller too and I use it for some games but not for something like AC.

There, that is my reason for NOT USING a controller.
It's actually the mouse requirement of keyboard controls that I hate. I didn't mind, so long as the camera automatically followed from behind, but having to switch between kb and mouse just plain pissed me off. A separately controlled camera became the standard, though, so I switched to XBox for PC controllers ultimately.

I really do know why people still use kb, though. Fans of FPS games need the mouse for targeting. Personally, I hate first person shooters. To me they feel obsolete, a holdover from the days when any character on screen was poorly rendered in 2d sprites made of very few pixels. It's ridiculous to be standing, taking damage for no apparent reason from a monster standing RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, but you can't tell because you have zero peripheral vision. And the only clue I had that it was happening was this quiet grunting coming from me (it turned out), and then a shift in color when my hp got low enough.

So I stopped playing in first person altogether. I forget that not everyone else did. Why anyone still plays FP is really what I wonder. But then I'm antisocial enough to not be playing coop as a rule. So what I think is pretty irrelevant to most folks, I'd say.

Can you imagine how mad I was to find, after making an exception and getting Left 4 Dead, that you had to play with others because there was no save function. I COULD play it alone, provided I didn't mind playing the start of the game over and over ad nauseum. But I needed a team to make any real progress.

Ah, but once 3d headset gaming becomes good enough (not just in resolution, but in scope and game availability and price), we'll ALL be going first person again, won't we?
