Desmond Miles story arc?

Maybe this has been answered somewhere but I can't find it if it is. I have played a small bit of AC 3 but none of Black Flag and it leaves me to wonder, in all of the earlier Assassins creed series games Desmond Miles and the story of the ancients (or whatnot) took place. Does black flag, and this one have that same story arc?

This is the main thing keeping me from purchasing this game. I don't want to fall behind in the story telling. I would be absolutely thrilled if this actually had nothing to do with that part of the story and gave me kind of a fresh start playing but alas, who knows.

To put it in the least spoilerific way possible, Desmond's story arc ended in Assassin's Creed 3.

So you're good. Though you really should get around to playing the other ones, especially AC2...

Yep, AC2 and Brotherhood are great, Revelation is quite good.
Black flag is not an AC game, it's a Pirate game disguised under AC franchise to sell more.

I've played all of them except for the end of 3 and black flag. I was kind of getting burned out by them coming out with a new one every 6 months it seemed like. There was the major ones, then the mobile ones, and the liberation one, and it just became too much so I kinda shelved it.

No worries, Desmon Miles finished his story at the end of 3, All's good. There is less emphasis on being outside the Animus as seen in Black Flag, It's more of an elaborate menu being in the real world. Which means more focus on in history stuff.
