Uplay is needed then you need to add the friends on Uplay you plan to play with in co-op.

Yes it is free.

UPlay is just like another form of Steam. So it's free. It;'s just the hub for all Ubisoft games. Wehn you're playing, you'll unlock UPlay achievements that reward points. You can use those points to get some extra game content or wallpapers. You can also save them up and use them on a future games, in case you don't want everythign offered. I typically avoid the wallpapers so I have an extra 100 or so points extra before each game comes out to spend on the bonus content rewards.

uplay is a crappy game launcher by ubisoft with crappy server support and crappy game linking. That they even sell ubisoft games on steam is laughable. I bought all the previous versions of assassins creed through steam not realizing that you have to download it through steam, delete the steam-installed uplay launcher, download the newest uplay launcher from ubi, then link your serial key to your ubisoft account manually. Then to play the game, steam launches uplay, which takes forever to connect to the ubisoft servers before uplay launches the games. I love the series, but I can not reconcile that with how much I hate Uplay.

Yeah I feel your pain, but I guess you pay a privilege to have it on Steam, alongside your other games in your own coveted library...

I was surprised the whiners didn't come in here complaining abotu UPlay but then BAM!

I don't really think it's all that bad. the only issue I've ever experienced with Uplay was the Watch Dogs launch. Their customer service has always been superb for me

launches are 50% of the time rough going. I think most of us can agree to that. Nothing is always perfect.
Naz Nov 10, 2014 @ 8:32pm
True. This launch is a little off too, the release time on the steam page is saying midnight for Pacific Time in North America. I'm not sure what to make of that beyond my Nividia drivers are also updating right now for AC Unity

... You know that you can add literally ANY game you own to your steam library. Steam may not keep all of those games up to date, but you can add them and organize them with steam.
