Unity vs Blackflag
I've played Odyssey (I thought it was meh), Syndicate (alright), and Ezio's Trilogy (my favorite) but the two above are ones I never got around to playing and am interested in doing so now. Between the two which has the better:

Gameplay
Visuals
Story (main thing I care about)
Characters
Music

I don't care about co op as I don't think I'll ever play it I just want to know which one has the better single player mode based on the aspects I mentioned above.

That`s strictly depends on tastes of people.
Assassin`s Creed III was my first AC game, so it still remains by favourite thought the ages.
Black Flag didn`t impressed me as much as the third part did.
After my first walkthrough of Unity, it immediately was included by me in my top-3 notch list of AC games.

Speaking of "Unity vs Blackflag" as main part of this discussion, I can briefly say the following:

Gameplay — AC series have 3 main gameplay pillars: parkour (traversal/navigation), stealth, combat. I can say the Unity is the best in every part of it, and many people would agree with me, that the game have best parkour (defintely speaking of animations, not navigation input, because in this people prefer Ezio trilogy button input responsivness). Combat in Unity had very great potential with its slow pace to develop in future games, but unfortuntately, its idea was abandoed by the developers.

Visuals — graphics of this game still amazes everyone nowadays after 6-7 years after release comparing to new AAA games.

Story — is rather short, with a tons of cut out content (sadly). Many people think it`s bad, but actually it`s just short, so the characters stories are not fully uncovered. I defintely recommend you to read simultaneously with your walkthrough Oliver Bowden book Unity as it depicts in deatils the life of main protagonist-ess, whilst the game plots really lacks that.

Characters — as come out from story section, due to the very short game plot, characters are not developed enough through the plot progression. As mentioned above, to get acquainted with Elise story background, it`s better to read the book with game progression.

Music — soundtrack is great, although some people prefer Fat Cry 3 composer`s soundtrack to Black Flag.

I'm not really good at game reviews, although I did my best to complete the above. :happy_creep:

Appreciate the detailed response. I posted my original comment in the Blackflag forum as well so I can get as many different responses to help me make a decision. I'm aware this game was very buggy during launch, have they patched it all up?

Sailing / naval combat is the main attraction / feature of black flag.
If you like it then Flack Flag is best, otherwise Unity.

The majority of bugs was fixed after multiple patches, so now it runs rather smoothly. If not the bad launch of this game by developers at start and ton of hate because of it, it could have been the best game in the series yet.

I really enjoyed Black Flag, it had a very nice Pirates of the Caribbean vibe to it which I liked a lot.

I'm actually only starting now to play Unity so I can't say really if it's any good. I've liked all AC so far.

all I can is if you like AC as much as I do and you like Pirate ships, then you should have lots of fun playing Black Flag for sure.

IMO, black flag is one of the best in the series. Unity is not. As someone else said, it's going to be personal taste for most. I like Edward a lot better than Arno. The story in Black Flag I liked better. The control and combat is about a billion times more fluid and enjoyable in Black Flag. Music is better in Black Flag. Unity probably competes in the graphics department, especially in 4k, but Black Flag owns it in every other category, IMO.

it`s better to read the book with game progression.
Don't bother - the very first chapter spoils everything, it's badly written (if you are going to hire someone to produce what is purported to be the diary of a little girl then maybe make sure that they know what a diary is) and it adds nothing of substance (what, if anything were there Templar old guard trying to do?)

Again, it all depends on people`s tastes. Reading the acquaintance of Elise with Jennifer Scott sent shivers down my spine, reviving flashback from Forsaken, the best book of AC by Bowden.

Blackflag is empty & boring + it's really overrated.

Unity has much more rich content & environment, best co-op, best parkour, best combat. Seriously.

Black Flag by a damn long shot, anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

You should have played them in the right order, but Unity is a great game, on of my favorites. Play Black Flag first, then Rogue, then Unity.
