This. The multiplayer actually looks good this time around. I haven't purchased an Assassin's Creed game in years and I'm looking forward to this.
Sounds like you missed E3 where they showed this game AC Unity, it looks like the same game as the others, more of the same showing no creativity. With so little effort put into developing the game concept, I doubt they even bothered much with the rest of the game at all. Kind of a bad sign when their so bankrupt of ideas that ubisoft keeps going to the same well for the same ideas over and over like a broken record, haha.
So lets say they do what you want. The get creative and change the way in more aspects. They let you play in the future maybe even in first person so you can shoot space templars with your pew pew lasers.
In this case lots of people would be on ubi's ass telling them that this is no assasins creed no more - and that the should stick to the old formula.
Truth be told, its impossible to make everyone happy. Some ppl just want more assasins creed other wants new inovations. Ubisoft will decide what they think is the best (or what generates them more money <- btw. this means that that the game pleases the most people). Theres no need to give them all the ♥♥♥♥ like some people do. If you dont like what the do, just dont buy/play it.
They dont have any obligation to you at all. They can make any kind of game that they want to make, as free individuals. Just dont buy it if you dont want it.
Quit acting like they owe you something.
If they like making games for that time period, they can make them for that time period. I personaly love it. If you want a different time period, play a different game.
Also tired of kids acting like they know how a business should price their final products.
Think about this:
If you pay your developers 30,000 to 60,000 per year salary. If you have 50 developers, you're looking at a about 2 million dollars per year on salaries alone. Now think about licensing, additional software needed to develop the games, the hardware they had to purchase, the electric bill for such the office, marketing expenses such as TV commercials which run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions.., etc etc the list goes on.
Business is expensive, people.
Do you even know history?
What do you expect to happen in "caveman times" meet 30 people in a large villiage and kill all the men in order to get the templar? xD and let all the women and children die of starvation? and fight sabertooth tigers?
Yeah, that would be ridiculous.
The whole theme of assassin's creed is how this creed of assassin's have shaped the major governmental powers of the world. It has to be set in time periods where major historical changes were taking place.
I love the AC franchise, for their storyline and great gameplay mechanics that fit my style. I am anticipating Unity to be the same. The French Revolution seems like a good time, and the way they approach using the time period in the game is a lot different, especially since the rebellion takes place outside of missions and story, and lots of new things to do have been introduced that fit the time period. The approach of Unity versus the other games in the series might set it apart. I agree with you that using the same time period and just different events is a little annoying, but would AC really be the same if you set it in caveman times or the future? Think about it, please!
Thanks for that post, reading it gives me hope this may be a good game. On the other hand I still feel like I will play it for an hour then feel I've done this before and just turn it off.
Caveman times was an exaggeration, by "future" I meant say current times, or heck why not in the future? Its a video game it can do anything it wants. Im not feeling the excitement I felt for AC4 when I look at this game because it kinda looks the same is what I meant.

I think that Unity might be the best Assassin's Creed game so far. Ezio trilogy was one of the best gaming excperiences I have experienced. I think that hundreds of years fight between assassins and templars just fit better with high cultures. (I don't want to cheapen native American culture but IMO it doesen't match with high culture in this case*)
Middle east (AC1) has "allways" been the place where happens. Renaissance Italy ( AC II, Brotherhood) was also a significant place of its time, in a cultural and population way. Paris (Unity), the heart of French revolution and Europe during age of enlightenment was also "the place" where worlds eyes were directed.
That's why I think that AC III and IV were the rock bottom of the series. What America was in the 18th century? America was a significant place in a economic way meybe, but in a population and cultural way? North America had only few European colonies, native americans (who has nothing to do with Assassin or templars from the old continent. America was in the middle of nowhere. I think that AC III was only made for pleasing Americans. And ACIV only because Ubi thought that it would be a good way to took off money of Pirates of the Caribbean fans. (Seriously, that would have been good "standalone" game. It wasn't good AC). Don't missundertand me. ACIII and IV were both good games, they just didn't fit in a AC universe (IMO Watch dogs is better "AC" than AC III or IV).
So, how Unity could be THE Assassin's Creed?
1) It comes back to the civilization. It's setting is Paris, in the middle of European "high culture".
2) It's story has been in proggress possibly a long time**
3) Game engine has improved since Ezio trilogy and the game is only next gen & PC
4) COOP
Sorry for my many grammar errors, English definitely isn't my native language :)
* I don't know how term "high culture" is defined in most of world but English Wikipedia defined it differently than in my country's school did. What I meant with "high culture" in this case were pretty much that what Wikipedia says. I don't think taht only Europe has "high culture". For example China and Japan have also had a high culture.
Every annual game has the advantage of improving different things in each game, this year, they don't need to change or put much effort into the concept. The concept is pretty solid and has been since ACs release, hence the fact there are annual releases now.
Uhhh, The controls sucked in 4 as much as they did in 1, they could fix that, but I've given up hope of that ever happening and resigned myself to laughing as my Assassin will often leap to their death from some ledge or roof. Remember me a game by a first time studio has close to the same moves but the controls work, Ubisoft needs to hire them, but thas kinda the only thing that they have yet improve on, as if the broken controls are just part of the game, not to mention the confused weapon menus they use that seems to change game to game as if they just cant get it together over there.
