This ain't about not able to get the gameplay into a WW2 era to work but rather the majority of the AC community doesn't want a dedicated WW2 AC game. Having the timeline pushed as far ahead into WW1 in Syndicate, then with the subsequent trilogy travels back millennia in time and still being a massive success basically proves that the audiences want to explore historical periods that are far less touched in modern times.
Having that said, the next AC game codename 'Infinity' is early in development and the devs could be going through all the options again. Who knows? Maybe you'll get your way but I seriously doubt it.
Yeah I was having a conversation about something to this effect here yesterday lol, I would absolutely love an AC game set during WW1 or 2, in WW1 there's already an active Assassin we know about, Lydia Frye, they could bring her back for a full game, or maybe like a decently sized DLC campaign, bigger than the Syndicate section at least.
I'd love for it to take place in WW2 because the dynamics fit more with AC lore and the theme of "war to end all wars" will tie in nicely with the Asaasin Templar wars. Natzi Templars have the edge because they have a bunch of Isu artifacts that they gave to their best officers to lead the war effort. Yet they still look for more relics. There could be one especially powerful one like the "iron thunderbolt" found in Hindu scriptures that natzis are after.
“Gurkha, flying a swift and powerful vimana hurled a single projectile charged with the power of the Universe. An incandescent column ofsmoke and
flame, as bright as ten thousand suns, rose with all its splendor.
It was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death, which reduced
to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas.
The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable.Hair and nails fell out; Pottery broke
without apparent cause, and the birds turned white. After a few hours all foodstuffs were infected…
to escape from this fire the soldiers threw themselves in streams to wash themselves and their
equipment.”
“Dense arrows of flame, like a great shower, issued forth upon creation, encompassing the enemy.
A thick gloom swiftly settled upon the Pandava hosts. All points of the compass were lost in
darkness.Fierce wind began to blow upward, showering dust and gravel.
Birds croaked madly… the very elements seemed disturbed. The earth shook, scorched by the
terrible violent heat of this weapon.Elephants burst into flame and ran to and fro in a frenzy.
over a vast area, other animals crumpled to the ground and died. From all points of the
compass the arrows of flame rained continuously and fiercely.”
You get to play as an Natzi Templar hunter scouring old ancient ruins in search of Isu relics that the Natzis are after. Especially this "Iron thunderbolt." As well as retrieving others from their strong holds in sprawling cities like Berlin and France. To diminish the Templars power.
This would makes the stakes especially high. Making the game that much better. I don't think that any of the Assassin's creed games had such high stakes. You feel that even if you lost and the Templars won, the Assassin's would alway recover. And the war will continue. But this hunt for an ancient Isu weapon that can whipe out entire civilizations at once will make the stakes feel especially high.
There is no such thing as "Nazi Cross". The thing you posted is the German Iron Cross. Wich has nothing to do with the Nazis. And it is still used by the German Military today.
Another precise reason Ubisoft wants to avoid WW2 is becuz of Nazism or the fascist ideology as a whole. The Swastika is officially banned in Germany and Israel for starters. Any form of justifying, rationalizing or romanticizing of the atrocities of WW2 will not be tolerated by the general public in this modern era, be it fictionalized or academic.
1. politics
2. weapons of the time period dont fit AC. No swords all guns
what about the Persians, the Indians, the Asians, the Maya.....
