Character wont jump, any ideas?

I just got the game but I have a problem right from the start. The default setting for jump is the space button but my character hides instead. I'm stuck at the very biggining where I need to jump onto a ledge but I can't. I've tried to reassign the key but he still wont jump no matter what key I use.
Is this a bug? I can't see anyone else with this issue. I don't have this problem with my many other games.

You can't "Jump", there is only free running up and down. I belive you need to hold shift + space while running to free run up which includes jumping over ledges etc.

I had the same issue, and shift+space does work.
