can't play as arno

so i just recently redeemed my free copy on the Uplay along with some DLC, but everytime i try to play the game, instead of arno, i get to play as some templar knight guy in the optional mission/memory, and i can't even go back into the main menu, i can only exit to dekstop which is annoying

how do i start the game as arno? what did i do wrong?

You did nothing wrong, it's a prologue.
Just sit through it and the actual game will start in no time.
Also, that was not actually the main menu. It was a fakeout for plot reasons.

Do i have to clear every single one or just the templar guy story?

Just the templar story, is like a 10 minutes sequence. Then the actual game will begin. All the other options are just a show-off of the Helix system.
