AI has taken control of me in multiplayer
So every turn the AI is building things for me, moving my heroes around, doing diplomacy, and moving my workers.

Any devs have any input here?

My friend just had this during our multiplayer game like an hour ago.

Who was hosting? I joined my friend.

I'm glad I'm not the only one as well. I'm playing with my BF and he keeps telling me he keeps getting heroes purchased that he didn't, his armies moving by themselves, city population moving around by itself, etc

I'm hosting the game, so I have a hypothesis on why this is happening: I'm guessing the way multiplayer is programmed is similar to the single player, where the player is the one controlling their own empire and the AI calculating its moves. During multiplayer, non-host players are considered AI by the game, but instead receiving orders from a human. Somehow, the AI routines may be going off anyway; my guess was due to packet loss.

This is all a shot in the dark, but the issue remains that the AI does "play" for the non-host player occasionally and it's very frustrating. I've NEVER had the AI do any moves for me as the host, so I'm to believe it only happens to non-host players.

Hello there!

In fact, it's a micro disconnection. You are still in the multiplayer game but the AI detected this disconnection. This is why the AI takes the control of your units.

In this case I suggest you to reload the game. (You can save it and continue it)

Cheers,

Thank you for responding quickly!

No chance there's somewhere in the .ini file where I can lengthen the detection time a bit is there?

Me and my bro get this whenever we load a saved game. Any one know what causes it? Any fix? Re loads dont seem to help :(

Essentially this means that there is some sort of step where the connection between your two computers falters. Is one of you playing through Wi-Fi? A hardwired cable goes a long way towards stabilizing one's connection.

This just happened to us. My friend d/c'd. When he came back, he kept telling me the AI was moving his stuff around and it wasn't on auto-explore. They also messed with his queues at some point. Err...

Yea, must be more than just a connection issue. Whenever we try to load the game again the problem persists, but if we start a new game there isn't an issue until someone disconnects again. We often get the AI overruling the player whenever we load a saved multiplayer game... Not for the host, just whoever joins.

This is still happening to this day. Joined my brothers game. Was doing this from the settings screen. Swapped my faction from Cultists to Mezari. I just started passing every round and was letting it play, because having to fight to play the way I wanted to every turn, with no clue what it's spending my resources on, diplomacy, units, my units gear, my workers, literally everything is controlled by the AI.

You can force it to change, but the next turn it resets it to how it wants it...

@Antherian

The player having the better internet connection should host the game (try to switch host in your case). Make sure graphic drivers and OS from both players are up to date. Sometimes it helps to switch off the router(s) and to restart them. Anyway, both of you should check out this thread and adapt it to your specs:

Good luck!

hi, friend of mine keep having this problem. the issues is if he is hosting im the one with this bug, and if im hosting he is the one. Is there no solution, like to disable the auto play of IA even if u are DC? This is geting really frustating that we can't play with each other.

The community patch disables one source of the problem (dodgy connection to the steam servers), but there may be more.
