Game is trying to install Mono Framework? (Mac)
Hi. Bought this game last night, but after installing it and launching it, it's then trying to install something called Mono Framework. I didn't sign up for installing more than just the game - will the game run w/out it?

It's required, as a number of libraries and other aspects necessary to actually run the game (which windows either natively has, or that so many windows programs use and install that it amounts to the same thing) are supplied by it.

You'll run into when using a number of cross-platform games.

Mono is a framework to use C# .net on non windows machines. AFAIK it is neither clear whether this 100% legal nor has it been tested for performance nor is ,net a good choice for games.

I tend to agree but I think this is because of Unity.

I don't think it's Unity. I've got other games here that run on the Unity engine, and they never tried to install .net, etc. Shame about this. Uninstalled.
LOL

Unity uses #C. Mono is required...

And "lol"

Unity does not require Mono.

From Unity's website:

"We will be shipping Mono 2.6 with Unity 4. This will allow the same subsets of .NET features as in Unity 3, depending on the profile you choose in your player settings. Read more at: http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/ScriptReference/MonoCompatibility "
Better delete that system32.dll that windows uses. Can't be having these things on your pc that you didnt sign up for.

Might want to uninstall that Pesky "Steam" thing - It sound so arcane and outdated. Why not try out some of that Nuclear power?

Steam is great. I just don't need games installing a bunch of WIndows junk. Steam refunded me credit for the game. Great customer service.

That's too bad, you'll miss out on a great game.

Although you likely won't read this, Mono is not "Windows junk", it is an open-source replacement for the .NET framework.

Sheesh, before you know it games will be requiring DirectX too.
