For those wanting gameplay, here you go
IGN did a video preview of the game about a week ago and it is the first time I've seen any gameplay of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tplqU64jBs

Wow! I'm throwing money at the screen as I type....

IGN seems to be good at that somehow.

Anyone else get that "Here we go again" feeling?
of Anwyl 24 ABR 2014 a las 22:04
why? It is a much different game than more well known titles like civ and age of wonders. it adds a lot of new things even if it is an early access.
LeftPaw 24 ABR 2014 a las 22:22
Different takes on Civ 5. How many of them are there now........... 5, 6 hundred? :)
At least AOW3/FE-LH, tries to be different.

this isnt anything like Civ V which isnt really as good as it could have been. Watch Panczasu's videos they cover a lot of aspects and how different it is compared to Civ V.

Maybe just me, but watching his videos gave me exactly that impression. Very Civ-like, linear and limited with an extreme focus on empire management. Have to agree with SouthLane, and it is refreshing to see games like AoW try a different focus. Just feels very samey, but still with some nice ideas as well.

Man that looks AMAZING! This is on my buy list for sure.

Civ V isn't really linear and places a much bigger focus on combat than city building/manage,management. This however has faction specific quest lines that play out the story while you play. Civ has no story.

Hmm, definitely very very different from CIV. Their other game, Endless Space, was of the same genre as Civ but generally pretty damn different, especially when it comes to combat. If anything this looks a little more like Age of Wonders or Fallen Enchantress with its customizeable units, quests, and RPG elements.

Now you're just being silly. :/

In civ V at least, combat is one of the biggest factors, while there are many different options to win the winners pretty much always have to constantly fend of invaders and invade themselves to gain advantage over the other p;ayers.

I've won more than once, on Diety, without ever being at war. Barely even building a military, at that. Once you learn the tricks to Civ, it is an extremely limited and linear game.

It's about as much like Civ as Chess is like Checkers.

They share common 4x elements but the execution is very different. Even in it's current, and very limited, state it's a pretty solid game both in terms of stability and game mechanics. The city/region mechanic itself is unique and requires more thought than most empire builders and in this aspect alone it's nothing like any version of Civ; the sole similarity being that you use a unit called "settler" to found your city.

And the hex grid but to be fair civ doesn't own hex grids, no wonders shared by all factions either. Seriously though, Settlers of Catan is mor elike Civ than this :P

Thanks, that's good to hear. It's just the impression I got from the videos I had seen. As burned out on that type of game as I am, caused some concern, but I haven't written it off quite yet.
