Reinforcement - Ehm, I need help
Hi guys. I'll try to make this short.

So I think I understand how reinforcements work, but yesterday a friend and I were playing against each other.
He was Wild Walkers, and I was the Allayi.

I attacked his capital with something like 18 armies of 8 units during a winter, where my troops should be stronger offensively.

But for some reason, even though my armies were alle crammed together, I had literally zero reinforcements. His armies didn't reinforce him either, except for the city garrison.
BUT neither of us got any reinforcement flags in battle, either, which means his City Garrison counted for ♥♥♥♥♥ anyway.
Then, because he had a stronger single army, that still had Fortification Points even when he counterattacked me, he could just snipe off an army at a time, with no losses whatsoever.

Is this because it's winter, or?
If so, then how come the late-quest Allayi tech/blessing that negates winter effects doesn't work with reinforcements?

That sounds odd, when you declare an attack on the left there is checkboxes ofthe nearby units.. And you select which sets you want to reinforce your main army before doing battle..

Did you get to that point?

I normally understand how reinforcements work.

Thing is, when I attacked with any given army, it would list as being alone. No other armies would show up in the pre-battle overlay at all.

Same for him, except for his garrison. However in the battle, none of us would get flags, so those didn't matter either.

Theres a global event (Quest thing) that makes it so you can't get reinforced. 100% sure thats what happened.

Hmm, we didn't have that. There were some Winter Effects, but that was only like -50. And my armies were literally on top of each other.

Also, his garrison army which did reinforce had no flags to enter with, either.

Winters change nothing about reinforcements

If everytnig is right you wrote about, it's only possible, that the armies not listed as reinforcements still were involved in one other combat same round.

Every army has got only one action point per game turn to do one combat. You can check it, by clicking army. Then you see, if they have no more action point. And that there are no flags in combat... did never hear about before.

I know about the action points. Thing is, no one had done anything. They were all clustered outside his capital. Then I initiated the attack, and... No one.

I experienced exactly the same thing. This only happens in winter, but does not happen in every game. Guess it's a bug. In general I feel this game is very buggy.

Sometimes there is a winter condition that disallows reinforcements. It is not really a quest thing, just a winter condition. There is extreme variability in the winter conditions. Also, if there is no garrison due to that garrison getting wiped out as a reinforcement elsewhere, the nearest friendly army starts as if it were in the garrison with all the fortification points as a bonus.

The worst winter condition causes serious attrition when you are outside your territory, pretty much disabling any offensive. A lot of these conditions are votable (in terms of spending pearls for prayers) although I am not sure if all of them are.

Thanks Spark for explaining. So this is not a bug, but kind of a lack of presenation and documentation to the players that causes confusion. Anyway this adds more variability and randomness to the game playing - not necessarily a bad thing :)

Well, presumably it is not a bug. You have to look at your empire screen (long list of empire/faction traits/conditions) or click the Temple of Auriga button above your turn button to see for sure. Whichever winter conditions are ongoing will show up in both places. The information also pops up when winter starts so always take a moment to check if any of the conditions are going to affect your current activities.

If you aren't assuming (near) complete control of what the new Winter penalties are, you aren't really playing the Ayalloi correcly. Spend those Pearls!
