Lore question about humans in the Endless Universe
In Endless Legend and Endless Space there are several human factions.

In EL we have Vaulters, Roving Clans, Ardent Mages and Forgotten. Broken Lords also used to be humans. We know that Vaulters are the descendant of the Success crash landing on the planet and the Forgotten were cast away by the Vaulters. Roving Clans split form the Broken Lords before they lost their bodies, and Ardent Mages are relatives of the Roving Clans, so we could say that they all belong to the Broken Lords branch, presumably all originating from them. So we have two branches, the Vaulters one and the Broken Lords one. We know that the Vaulters came from space, and I'll talk about it later, but were do the Broken Lords came from? What's their origin?

In Endless Space the United Empire gave birth to the Horatio, the Sheredyn and the Pilgrims. But the Vaulters stand on their own, they don't share anything with the United Empire branch besides the fact that thay look human. How is possible for two races to have their origins in different planets and both evolve to be humans?

I have a theory that the Mezari Empire IS the United Empire, or rather how the United Empire was called even before the events of Endless Legend took place. Then when the Success crash landed on auriga a new civilization was born, the Vaulters. The Vaulters eventually fled Auriga and kept their own identity while the Mezari Empire evolved becoming the United Empire, presumably through a process of war that caused the Mezari empire to lose the knowledge of Auriga's location. Or maybe the was was ongoing during the events of DotE, the Success was loaded with war prisioners and due to the war the Mezari were unable to send help after the crash, and eventually lost the position of the planet. This covers every faction from Endless Space. But what about the Broken Lords branch from Endless Legend? They don't have anything to do with the Vaulters, so how did they came to being?

The broken lords talk about the temple of the earths core as something their ancestors designed or built. It's an concrete endless building. Broken lords=endless broken lords=humans endless=humans. The vaulters likely were refugees of the splitup or war, while the others try to survive with the knowledge they could gather during and after the war.

Wow, cool, people other than myself ask these questions. One thing I think you should mention (if seen at all it is a more recent thing) is that in the main picture for the sophons on the endless space 2 wiki (look at image in the main page listing all factions) shows a woman with a necklace in Mezari colors (and she looks like a Mezari, black hair, Caucasian) looking at a Sophon data thingy. thus, presumably, the Mezari still exist as a splinter faction independent of the UEE. Secondly, the "pilgrims" minor faction could be a vaulter remnant, as they are fascinated with Endless Stuff. And finally, the Voyandi. Their physiology is human, and yet they are AI hmmm. Well in the trailer/wiki/whatever I honestly forget, it is mentioned that they were "uplifted" to AI form (presumably by an Endless) from a quote "wretched form". hmmm, wretched, not biological, not even "meatbag" or some other slang...just wretched. Well, what's the most "wretched" species in Endless Legend (Necrophages don't count they are happy in their grossness). another interesting point supporting this theory, is that they say that they can "go back to their home planet to see the vile forms they used to be, and be suitably grateful for their uplifting". Ummmm, how can they see their previous forms if they were humans/aliens turned AI. It would be either gone, or corpses, either way not exactly an intact specimen. HOWEVER, if they were Broken Lords their armor would have been left behind for them to "ewwww we were that" at. also, Broken Lords ate dust and there is a picture of a Voyandi draining people of energy for dust to eat. In short, if the Voyandi are actually "uplifted" AI'ified Broken Lords it would be a fascinating story (there should seriously be books based in this universe, it deserves more lore) to read. thanks for this thread I hope you hear my theory.

No, the Vodyani weren't virtualized by the endless nor they were human. They destroyed their planet through over industrialization and managed to survive thanks to Virtual technology. You can take a peak at their previous, biologic, form at the beginning of "The Vision" trailer.

A lot of my older post is outdated though since Endless Space 2 will retcon a lot of stuff.

Really? But their physiology is undeniably human. Oh well, they will probably release more factions in updates.

Not at all. Their "armors" look like humans but their original, biologic, form was nothing like a humanoid. Watch this trailer and you will see how their original bodies looked like:

oops, yeah, can't argue with you there; although I now find it funny that their virtual humanoid forms are now considered "perfection", despite is drastic difference from their previous form. Oh well, thats one theory down the drain. Thanks for correcting my claim, (although now I actually feel that my claim makes more sense than the reality). I look foward to the potential "Broken Lords The Sequel" faction.

However, one unanswered question is, "what happened to the Forgotten". There is definatly no Endless Space 2 identical faction, or even an equivalent. The Drakken could theorectiacally have chosen to remain on Auriga due to their love for it, same with the Allayi. However, the cultists and Forgotten have no explanation for missing, or an equivalent/predeccesor. (okay you can argue that the voyandi are equivalent to the cultists, but they really aren't) Still, even if Amplitude considers voyandi to be Cultists II, What happened to the Forgotten? My guess is that they will appear as a Minor Faction eventually, as they just don't seem like Major Faction material to me.

Auriga still froze and died, the disappearance of several empires wouldn't be hard to explain lore wise.

Its called DLC - they will be released later to earn more coin. (in reference to the above Forgotten) As you say, they proabaly needed more fleshing out with a back story added in.

Does anyone have a specific source for the whole 'Roving Clans split from the Broken Lords' thing? Because the Endless Legend Artbook says that the Broken Lords were originally a branch of the Concrete Endless.

They didn't, I was wrong and just assumed from their intro video, where they look like humans. Holy necro anyway.

Human history in Endless universe in chronological order:
- Dawn of the Endless (they are very humanoid at least)
- Endless came to Auriga, some of them became Broken Lords
- Dusk of the Endless (both Concrete and Virtual)
- Some descendants of the Concrete Endless founded Mezari Empire (this is just my theory)
- Mezari Empire sent colony ship to Auriga and Raia
- Mezari colony ship Argosy crashed on Auriga and those Mezari got stuck there forever
- Raia was colonized
- Some of the Mezari people on Auriga became Sisters of Mercy
- Horatio left Mezari Empire for a lone adventure
- Mezari prison ship SS Success crashed on Auriga
- Horatio found the Endless lab on Auriga
- Mezari crew and prisoners from SS Success settled underground and became Vaulters
- Some of them stayed on the surface and eventually became Roving Clans and Ardent Mages
- Horatio founded his own empire
- Vaulters sent the outcasts to the surface and they became Forgotten
- Vaulters came out to the surface of Auriga after the Great Quake
- Vaulters and Sisters of Mercy left Auriga on Argosy for a long voyage
- Raians founded the United Empire
- Some of the raians left the United Empire and became Pilgrims

That timeline makes sense, even the part where it's just your conjecture. It helps with my own theory on what the Broken Lords actually looked like before they became ghost-vape in suits of armour.
AleNes Jan 17, 2018 @ 1:26pm
How they became lords after all? They were highly advanced civilization and then they just lost all knowledge?
Lucky Shot Jan 17, 2018 @ 1:44pm
Auriga was bombed into stone age.
