But I can give you a few short impressions. Endless Legend and the Civ games are pretty different, although they share some basic 4X DNA. For example, in both you find special resources on the map and try to claim and mine them before your enemies do. But Endless Legend has a lot more unique resources that have some very unique effects on your empire that go beyond just boosting your food, money, or science. Also, whereas in Civ you can build a city almost anywhere you want, in Endless Legend the map is divided into provinces and you can only build one city per province; you can, however, build a city anywhere in a given province.
The biggest difference is probably that in Endless Legend, each faction plays extremely differently from one another, whereas in Civ most civilizations are basically the same, but with a few tweaks here and there.
Also, Endless Legend uses a lot of pop-up text-based quests and stories throughout your gameplay, which Civ doesn't do. It makes EL pretty story-oriented for a strategy game, although you can ignore the quests if you want to.
Honestly, I find Civ 5 to be faster paced than Endless Legend, but EL has loads of cool fantasy atmosphere. EL has tactical battles, where Civ doesn't. EL has seasonal changes that affect every aspect of gameplay, where Civ doesn't. But Civ has more freedom, because in EL you kinda have to play with the strategy your faction is designed for. Both games are vastly improved with all their DLC.
This help?
Also Endless Legend has a bit more of a story to it to follow. And I would say Civ games are typically more balanced and more competitive. Endless Legend does not excel in balance, but it is quite fun to play and wins over civ in creativity.
The combats itself is a complete tactic game. When playing endless, you have a complete and amazing 4X experience, PLUS a full and complete tactic game when it comes to combat.
Obviously, there is a lot of unique mecanics that sets it appart, but for me, the real deal is the combat system.
Plus the universe is fantastic. Instead of building chichenItza, you build things that are integrated into an amazing fantastic world.
LAST THING:
The dev. Yesterday, they released a patch, people kept complaining about few minor details in the comments. 2 hours later, a new patch was up clearing ALL of the comments. Just for that, it is worth buying.
