Meh, Urkan stats are about the same as any Guardian of the same level. If you're properly prepared and you can ambush it alone, your 6+hero (or 6+6) will eventually be able to beat down any 1 Guardian-class unit.

Since Urkans have 4(+?) lice with them, it's a bit harder to isolate and surround it in tactical battle. But basically, wipe out the lice in 1-2 rounds, then surround the Urkan and beat it down. You must have all of your high-init troops big enough to take 1 hit each and live, enough healers so that you can rotate guys out of the fight and bring them back later, and enough guys with higher Initiative that you can init-lock a solo target. If it's a Guardian with Intimidation Aura, this means 3 units with higher init (since the aura debuff lasts 2 rounds), and you leave one adjacent hex empty and rotate them in 1 at a time.

This may mean Era V-VI with high-tier dust gear, all your units at L7+, and your general hero at L10+ with accessories and most of the left-side skill tree taken, for maximal army boosts. Maybe don't try this until you reach that point. It's not so hard to judge; glance at the target's stats, glance at yours, and mentally play out the fight in your head for 1 round.

[_] Do I have higher init? (If not, it's much harder to control the fight. You may need to predict its movement, esp. by offering it 1 bait guy it can reach and hit, while your other guys set up just outside its range and move to surround where-it-will-be.)

[_] Can my guys with higher Init take one counterattack per round and live? Compare its damage to your units' hp. Your game-plan is simple: hit first to force its counterattack, so that it never gets to move or use any ability, then surround and dogpile. (Beware of Fakir's Sweep Strike Back 4.)

[_] Do we deal enough total damage? Figure 6 guys hitting per round x 3 rounds, so if it has 1800 hp, your average hit must deliver 100 damage. That means 100 damage and your attack rating is >= its defense, or 200 damage if you're lower. Yes, your units eventually get this big. L10 Neros can get over 6300 hp (3150 after he auto-retreats :), and that's still do-able in one combat.

[_] Do we have enough healers to do this infinitely?
Either by healing your 1st attacker's damage (enough so that he can survive another hit), or by rotating multiple guys in and out.

Solo Guardians used to be impressive, but kill enough of them and they lose their awe. Hence every new challenge must raise the bar to even draw our notice.

- Tempest added the Hungering Maw + tentacles (and it's harder, but still do-able).
- Symbiosis adds Urkans with Sweep Strike Back 4 + some lice with Free Counter.

Harder, but not impossible. They're supposed to be a tame-me-first-or-else kind of threat for all players.

The Urkans themselves are just giant sacks of hitpoints. Simply put, anyone who can easily assemble the 5 ranged + 3 melee counter wall, like the Wild Walkers, can put an Urkan down easily. It will likely take 5 or all 6 turns to do so, but you'll get the job done easily with no losses.

Harder with the melee dependant races. You will suffer losses. But you'll also get the Urkan pretty easily.
