Cannot play multiplayer

So about 2 days ago my friend and I bought Endless Legend with all its expansions and add-ons mainly to play it together. We completed the tutorial and proceeded to start a multiplayer game.
Everything was simple and easy at the start but then after like 10 mins I was in game but my friend was still getting the "waiting for game data" at the loading screen.
so we decided that he should host the game. Then after a while he is game and I get stuck in the loading screen with the same message.
We decided that the host should start the game and the other player joins the game after it has started. Then the player joining the game gets the message "waiting for other players to end turn" at the loading screen while the host is getting "a player is joining" in game after he has ended his turn.

Other things tried:
- We both set the game to 32-bit from 64-bit. It patched a little. But didnt solve the problem.
- Tried Hamachi on and off. With Hamachi on we both got stuck in loading screen if we started together from the lobby.
- Tried smallest map and player setting (just 2 players) to largest (8 players). Didnt work.
- Disabled all the expansions and add-ons. Still no luck.
- Waited. It never loaded.

So we are at a loss of what more we can do. Kindly help solve this problem as we bought this game exclusively to be played in multiplayer.

Having the exact same issue, have made sure all the proper ports are set for steam, and have one player loading fine while all non host players get stuck waiting for game data. Hoping someone has a solution

Start with verifying game cache and driver update. The other possible fixes depend on your OS, hardware, etc.

probably worth a mention that most 4x games have not been optimized for Mac to Windows multiplayer in recent years, as Apple introduced games on its "Store" and seeks to have all Mac users purchase solely from Apple and play on Apple devices, exclusively... If one of you has a Mac and the other a Windows, this could be the issue
