Damage to armies and hero in winter while outside of owned territory.
So I've got Both 'ice in the veins' and 'cold operator' skills and I am still taking heavy damage in winter while outside my territories. I can't even get across the ocean without my troops and hero dying. It's around 20% damage per round. Wtf batman. I'm on default settings so not sure why the @#$% I'm taking that kind of damage especially with the 'negate winter effects' skills.

Are you ending your turn in the lightning hexes? You get 15% damage from being in them.

No, I am just playing the base game that I bought in 2014, no DLC. Haven't seen any lightning yet. The damage starts anywhere outside of my zones. I didn't notice taking damage until around turn 250 or so. I was just about to make the final push onto the other AI with about 8 armies when I noticed them all dying just as I landed. I had to fight the last capital with my tropps around 50% health.

I only played about 10 hours of it in 2014, just started playing it again but didn't notice any of the winter damage on my troops except in the last game I played. The only settings I've changed is map sizes and number of AI. I was playing as the bug race if tht matters. Are they weak to cold?

Perhaps the enemy has got defend towers - in case you have the Shifters DLC activated - that damage your army ? In this case your armies are not damaged anywhere outside of your zones, only in close range to the enemy capital you want to conquer.

In this case look here -> "Tower of Truth" -> http://endless-legend.wikia.com/wiki/Altar_of_Auriga

Edit: Found these threads, relating to Cold Operator/Ice in the Vains skills ->

It's obviously a bug. Not going to bother buying the DLC or other games from these devs seeing how they can manage to leave a game breaking bug in the game like that and push out DLC.

Good luck to find more engaged devs dealing with complex strategy games than Amplitude.

Sooo this is a new game where one could expect these kind of bugs? Cmon' now. It's not a minor thing considering how long winters last at the end game. So I either play a one track economy game which is less than 50% of the game or deal with it?

I can't leave my territories in winter or I lose the game. No biggie, who wants to enjoy winning in games anyway.

There are ways to counter that bug (I posted some links for heroes to keep their skills dealing with winter penalties active, i.e.).

So - in my case - it was never gamebreaking. You can choose to have units in your army, that are not affected by these kind of wintereffects. You can choose to build healing watch towers in your territories (so found a new city close to the enemy you want to attack to be the owner of that region). Choose to start attack, if winter ends, etc. (!!!).

Anyway, you are right, it's a bug. In my case I won games regularly before winters get longer.

I believe i have a fix for this bug. You have to make the following change in the file :SimulationDescriptors[Season] (look for the part that begin with path=)

<!-- Attribute maluses / immunity -->
<SimulationDescriptor Name="WinterAttributeReduction1" Type="Winter">
<SimulationModifierDescriptors>
<SimulationModifierDescriptor TargetProperty="GlobalUnitRegenImprovement" Operation="Addition" Value="-0.1" Path="!WinterAttributeReductionImmunity,!WinterEffectImmunity,EmpireTypeMajor"/>
</SimulationModifierDescriptors>
</SimulationDescriptor>

Right on, thanks. I will try this if it happens again. My last playthrough had no issues. Except for one lol. I got the achievement for attacking with a full 'submersible' army somehow! I htink it was from the army I had that consisted of just the minor faction of crystal golems, the blue guys. I don't have any DLC so I'm not sure what happened. I know I didn't have any submarines, that's for sure haha!

Thanks again for the tips.

You could make a mod with that change and post it to the workshop, ya?

If it actually solves that problem, it's awesome, and people could use it. :-)
