I actually found Scyther to be a tad soft. It's devastating when you use your other units to set up a Beam attack, and let the Scyther swoop in. But it can't really go toe-to-toe with era V+ infantry; it takes enough damage that you'll have to rotate it back to heal. So its combat readiness is only about 66%. Combine it with a Drider or two.
Be very afraid of archers with longbows. Anything with Flying Slayer will prioritize any flying target at the top of its list, even rushing itself into suicide range just to shoot your flyer down.
The worst unit in the game is ... your Scyther, after that Skoros mind-controls it. Ugh. (Wince if you've been there.)
In combat, Eslek sets up his Improved Chain Lightning 2 (50% damage chains :o) and they use their Beam. Give Eslek a claymore (Infantry Slayer 4) and he can critical the first enemy infantry for 396, which means a 198-pt chain lightning through the rest of the enemy's formation. He can't do this twice in one fight, because there's no two enemies left adjacent to each other ...
Drawback: Scythers are not immune to Eslek's Disease (from Sepulcher Sickness). Go figure. (It's a game balance thing, but still.)
