Constant Desync
Started playing a game with my friend earlier and once we hit a certain point, I get desync'd every turn with him as the host. My internet connection has been stable with no interruptions, so it's not that. Has this happened with anyone else?

I just experienced these massive desync Issues in Multiplayer the last days. Once the desync happend one time, the player got it every turn. Reloading helped first but got less and less helpfull till he got desynced after a few turns again.

We tested several suggested things like changing the CPU priority or use Fullscreen and nothing helped till we got an idea. My friend was always running the game in DX12 out of the steam library. He quit doing that and launched the default non DX12 version. We had no desync issues after that today. This maybe coincidence or not, maybe this will help you.

Although i'd like to use DX12 properly... and not be forced not to.

With us, those desyncs only hit me, when we're playing a map size "big" or "huge" - and then right at turn 2. But not on smaller maps. Mods doesn't matter and it also doesn't matter wether we are using internet or local network with a direct cable-connection. Since we are experiencing these issues right from the start, it probably is only one of multiple causes - but whoever has this problem with desyncs every turn, might try use a standard map.

We had this coming and going since the games initial release up until last summer update when it just vanished. Life was great, we played tons of multiplayer until Rise and Fall arrived and now the game is unplayable. ~100 turns in on a small map on online speed and desyncs happen almost every turn. Saving and restarting the game helps for a few turns at best, and restarting the game every few turns takes all the fun out of the game. We need a fix for this or at least a better workaround then restarting the game for everyone.

This may be an old thread but we are still having the same issue. We found that by having the host wait to end turn until everyone else was done the desync went away.

it was said long ago that in order to play this game online you (and all who play with you) need perfect internet and p2p forwarding...thats all...devs do not count such problems as problems of their product...thats all

Key to a successful game is that the host has to have a strong computer to handle the end turn AI functions. Also Civ is a p2p game, so any one player that either has a weak computer or a weak connections is going to drag the game every time the turns turn over. Now Gathering Storm has a completed revamped MP code and full DX12 support, so it's much more stable than before. But my first statement is still true

This is why at Civplayers Leagues we have players run the in game benchmarks and based on the scores we give certain people "Solid Host" roles for 10+ player games and "Host" roles for 6-8 player games. This works really well to identify the players with good rigs that can host games

Same here in 2019!
Just upgraded to Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm with my friends and suddenly we get desynced all the time? We all hava absolute High-End PC's and tried different Hosts.

Help needed!

Non of those options are working and my friend and I keep getting those desyncs!!! PLEASE FIX IT!!!

We are living in an era of MMORPG-FPS-games and Firaxis is unable to get a turn-based strategy game to work with three players! :steamfacepalm:

2 years later this is still an issue. Doesn't put Fireaxis in a favorable light.

Disable Windows Defender realtime scan and autosaves from non-hosts.close background apps. Hope it helps.
