A scenario, could be done in about 2 hours if everyone is working on doing their turns quickly.
Back in the days of gamespy you couldn´t change your name easily so everyone who quitted got instantly booted in every future match because everyone knew him.
I mostly play standard speed, and my multiplayer games (2 players, 5-8 AIs) on standard speed on average take between 1 and 2 minutes per turn (this includes various technical issues, but no breaks). That's 5-10 hours, closer to 10 than 5, for a standard game (~300 turns).
It's been a while since I tried online, but even if you spend as much time per turn, you'd still be done by turn 200 (175?), so that's maybe six hours tops - probably less.
I'm sure you can take longer turns, but I don't think two minutes per turn is unreasonably quick.
I also think you play very fast, if you stay below 2 minutes on average for the entire game. For me mid to late game turns will take longer. Which would bring the average above 2 minutes easily.
