Cannot build walls

I'm not sure what I'm missing.

I do not have the option to build walls on my last two cites I just settled. I most recently researched ren. walls; hoping that would let me do it, but the option still did not present itself.

Any suggestions?


EDIT: I think I found what I'm missing. I'll leave this here for anyone to verify, or maybe to answer this question if someone else gets confused.

"Once you unlock Civil Engineering, each of your cities automatically gets +200 fortification strength and the ability to bombard, and you can no longer build any walls."

Happened to me, I think you need to repair your outer wall. Listede among projects

I don't have a wall to repair. It was a newly settled city with no buildings.

Ah in my cse the next wall upgrade was grayed/faded out. Think you found the answer though

Mb u should build some other buiuldings to have access to build walls

If you are unable to build some walls, you need to use the wildcard slot: Donald Trump Presidency. That should let you build some walls.

Civil Engineering makes building of walls obsolete cause it adds fortifications so every city stronger than all the walls together.

With Sumeria built Ancient Walls on my 2nd city. Got the Great Engineer who builds walls, but moved him to my last 2 citites to protect them. Then, Denmark iniciates a Surprise war against me and damages my Ancient Walls on the 2nd city. After finishing the city project that repairs the walls, the "blue bar" goes completely black (as if 0 hp on walls), tells me that I have the walls but cannot repair them and doesn´t allow me to upgrade them to Medieval Walls (even though I have not discovered Civil Engineering yet and I just entered the Industrial Age).
