Change the music

I really need to change some of the music files. I find the "American" theme just too annoying throughout every era. it might be fitting in the earliest ages, but when the same old melody comes through later it just gets to me. Sheeesh!
So where are the music files? Are they the .wem files? How can I find and change those few grating tunes?
