I don't know what it is with this game, but several crashes per hour (some of them even take my Windows 10 Pro x64 OS with it by triggering a BSOD) simply ruins my game plays. The game crashes both in DX11 and DX12 mode. Sometimes it crashes during loading, sometimes I can play for about 30-45 minutes without any problems. In about 50% of the crashes the Firaxis crash reporter pops up and I allow the report to be sent to them. The Windows OS BSOD's seem to be random in nature (so far I've seen errors like KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED).

My PC specs, just in case someone from Firaxis Games is watching this (although I highly doubt it) : Asus Zenith Extreme with AMD Threadripper CPU and a Asus Radeon Vega 64 GPU, plenty of RAM, plenty of SSD/HDD storage, ...

If anyone has any ideas about how to get Firaxis to respond and actually investigate these crashes, please let us know so that we can force them to actually provide the customer service that we expect to receive and fix these bugs in the first place...

I too have a Thredripper but 1900X and Radeon RX 580 I have Civ VI crashing regullary. Just ctd with "update your graphics drivers" error. I even don't have any dump or log in windows. It seems it started after first expansion pack which i don't have. I have not played the game for quite some time and i wanted to play again. And i cannot play it right now. I even rma'd my graphics card and they sent it back saying it's ok.

The game is unplayable. Taking 7 minutes to get back into the game each time it crashes, only to crash again in a turn or two (sometimes even before getting to the end of the turn I crashed in last time) is just dumb. After all this time with no response from Steam, the best thing I can think of is to find some other company to throw my money at.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by selecting correct DirectX12 (default was 11) and then switching the display adaptor from the AMD Radeon to the "regular" Intel HD graphics 520 (on my simple laptop).

Works fine now!

DX11, DX12 makes no difference. I've set all options to the lowest level. Makes no difference. I can't go 10 minutes without crashing. I don't have another video option to try. I removed all Steam software and reinstalled. No difference. Apparently Steam does not care. And now, neither do I. Steam has collected the last dime they will ever see from me. G'bye!

This is the last message I can see in the event log before my computer restarts

I tried several websites that describe a fix of this error but it did not help. My Civ 6 reboots the computer after less than 5 rounds.

Having looked at all these entries re:Civ 6 GS crashing...I have the same problem. Crashing all the time. Doesn't matter what I do, after a couple of turns, it just dies. I am using DX11, as DX12 crashes just before loading game. I didn't keep the report I just got, but it is similar to the one listed here. This really is a drag and I hope that Steam take these complaints seriously. I spent a boat load on this game and I want it to work.

I just stopped playing it. It was either that or torch the computer out of rage because of incessant crashing..

I have changed ram modules to G skill 3200 CL 14 4x8 GB which are QVL tested by g. skill with my board MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon and the crashes stopped. I have tested with new memtest 64 and no errors. I could not set up it at 3200MHz and CL 14 but 2933 CL14 because there was some memory errors reported. I will leave it like this because it is 100% stable now in all games i play. Maybe when i change to new Threadripper CPU's i could set up memory to better fequency/timings. Try testing with memtest 64 to find if there is memory stability issues related to it settings.

Here's what works for me.

Set custom resolution. Set my Refresh Rate to 48Hz.

Does not crash. Anything else, and I get all the same kind of errors regarding my video card.

As an aside, I have this custom refresh rate in order to play movies at 24fps (simply displays the same frame twice) as my monitor can't do 24Hz.

So I found this by complete accident.

But I will say, it's stopped all the crashes in their tracks.

I had similar problems with Civ6 with my old PC HW. I had APPCRASH and "Display device has failed" and "update latest drivers". After updating my CPU (to Ryzen 5), GPU and MoBo I have not experienced any problems. I also updated from Win7 to Win10.

Message to people who still get a 'game crash' from time to time while switching turns.
If advice from the help section does not work, such as reinstalling the game or checking the consistency of files, windows update or anything else.
Tthis is another thing that you should try. This is the application of the rule: declare war, make peace or break an alliance.

A simple declaration of war or the conclusion of peace worked for me in 4 cases out of 7.
Sometimes there are more complicated situations. Namely, declaration of war may result in the fact that within a few to several turns of the war declaration 'game will crash'. But there is also a way. Unfortunately, you have to go back to the previous point of saving the game and instead of declaring war, wait in peaceful relations until you jump over the point where the 'game crash' occurred

I had it in one of the games. I declared wars in the USA, renting several of their cities (4 of 7) and then always turned off the game in the same turn. I loaded the previous save, I had peaceful relations with the USA at all costs, and I declared war on other players, and I dealt with the US later

Another difficult case is when 'game crusing' is caused by an 'active alliance with one of the players'. I know it sounds a bit strange, but in the last game I confirmed it experimentally. For nearly 9 hours I played various war scenarios declared to other players or being a victim of war, in others I sought to maintain peace. All for nothing. Being a bit nervous about playing Groundhog Day, I decided to conduct an experiment and get along with an active alliance with the Zulu. Due to the fact that there is no option to break the alliance, even at a high cost, I have to load the previous 'sav -36tur'. This time I said no and it is surprising when I came to round 560/561 where there was a 'game crash' before, I went to round 561, then 562 and so on.

Sometimes to get around the 'game crash point' it's enough to make an alliance with someone and the game goes on
