LaunchPad.exe has stopped working
Every time I try to play Civ 6, your new launch pad comes up, with the compass spinning, and then crashes shortly after. It gives the message LaunchPad.exe has stopped working.

Doing this also creates 2 QtWebEngineProcess.exe processes that take up considerable CPU resources, that remain after the crash.

The only way I can play the game is to try to hit the "play" button before the crash happens.

I don't want your adware ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t on my computer. I want to play the game I purchased. Take your adware ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t that's preventing me from playing, and clogging up my CPU out of this game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s.

I guess other processes running simultaneously in the background elicit this. I reproduced it earlier this morning and found if I completely close out all Origin applications in task manager and run Civ 6 there is no QtWebEngineProcess. Other processes which might similarly cause this conflict are Dropbox or certain chat programs.

You might also just be helped by activating the legacy beta. Check the pinned thread on how to do that.

Thanks donald23 for the tip. Using the legacy beta worked. It's unfortunate the community has to solve the problems the game company unnecessarily creates by trying to force ads down its paying customers' throats.

It's not what I'd call ads. It's a feed of content from their website, and one link to buy the upcoming expansion. Pretty common for launchers, these days.

really? not sure what you call ads=advertisement then. you just described advertising in your own comment.

it is a launcher, that advertises up coming dlc, and changes to the game. it is 100% advertisement by literal defininition. that advertisement also includes a way to access and purchase what is being advertised through the launcher.

"feed of content" haha.. thanks for that. "feed of content" that advertises said content.

@phaed. there seems to be an issue or several with the qtweb..process (launcher) and civ6 exe. (game), if by some chance the civ6 exe. kills improperly (hangs closing steam) or if civ 6 itself closes abruptly, maybe due to a system issue, the qtweb.. process will remain.

no doubt this will get fixed at some point. but this is definately "unwanted" launcher related.

all the best.

At the moment, most of the stuff on the website, the recent stuff, is previews for the new expansion. Go back further, and it isn't. I'll be happier once it's more of the interesting stuff myself, though.

The fact it's broken is a problem, though, for sure.
