really? not sure what you call ads=advertisement then. you just described advertising in your own comment.
it is a launcher, that advertises up coming dlc, and changes to the game. it is 100% advertisement by literal defininition. that advertisement also includes a way to access and purchase what is being advertised through the launcher.

@phaed. there seems to be an issue or several with the qtweb..process (launcher) and civ6 exe. (game), if by some chance the civ6 exe. kills improperly (hangs closing steam) or if civ 6 itself closes abruptly, maybe due to a system issue, the qtweb.. process will remain.
no doubt this will get fixed at some point. but this is definately "unwanted" launcher related.
