"<Path to Civ 6 executable>" %command%
Replace <Path to Civ 6 executable> with your actual exe location. I also had issues with the launcher (it would hang when left open for more than a couple of seconds, so I had to quickly click the button to launch the game before that happened), but bypassing the launcher works fine for me.
This should also hopefully bypass all the other issues with the launcher people are experiencing.
Are you sure this is even a Civ 6 thing tho?
Bear with me.
Open task manager. Manually end task any background process associated with Origin (I'm sure you'll recognize the orange circle icon).
Run Civ 6 ap. QtWebEngineProcess should not run.
I "think" it's an Origin thing, man.
edit: didn't even ask if you have Origin on your computer, but I guess it goes without saying. if you fire back, "I don't even have Origin!" I'll know I'm off base.
Edit: actually, I've just tested this and Civ6's version of QtWebEngineProcess.exe does actually quit itself when the game is launched. So it shouldn't be hanging around afterwards. When it was up, it wasn't taking up many CPU cycles either (but I have 8 cores 16 threads, so it wouldn't have made much impact if it did apart from hanging itself). If it doesn't exit when launching the game, something's wrong.
of course it is, of course i'm "sure".. i traced the process directly to the civ 6 folder. why do i need to close anything else down when all you need to do is open the file location for the qt process in question via task manager. kmon man. if it was origin it would have taken me to the origin root folder.
origin does use the same process, i have never had this issue with origin or any other application that uses or shares qt.
this is specific to the civ 6 launcher.. and you could easily thumb through the linked post and see that it is. consider yourself fortunate. if civ 6 has an issue with closing normally, which sometimes it does, it will hang. then this problem could happen and does, whenever is decides to do so.
i have had this happen twice now, both traced to civ 6 and both times complete resource lock.
it's not an "origin thing". it's a "we did not ask for this shoddy launcher to begin with".. thing
there are several launcher issues, this is just another one.
I'm not in a position to make accusations, but I can imagine under certain circumstances an application which masks itself into other software, marauding as being associated with said software, but having malicious intent as using your resources to contribute to bitcoin mining, and one or another person's level of expertise at identifying the -root- of said ap would not conclusively garner a truthful explanation. If it's continuing, understand that I do not have this happening.
