What is qtwebengineprocess.exe? And why does it eat 8GB+ of RAM on my PC?
So, this strange thing has been happening lately. When I play a game of Civ VI, and then exit the client when I am done, this new 'qtwebengineprocess.exe' process still runs even after I have terminated the game.

A couple of times, it was running on my PC long after I quit Civ VI, and I left for work. I came home, and my whole system was locked up. After I get into task manager (a 20-minute waiting game as my system is out of memory at this point), I notice MULTIPLE instances of the aforementioned process running, and just ONE of them was using 8.57GB of RAM!

I know this is a process used in the new launcher. And I also notice, it doesn't run amok if I exit steam after my game. It seems to only give me grief if I exit the game, but leave steam running. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

By the way, my specs are:

Win 7 64-bit

GTX 970 4GB

12GB RAM

Intel i7-930k

I prefer Bing. In all seriousness, though, search engines yield limited results. Civ VI has only recently started using this software, and not a lot of folks use Windows 7 anymore. Therefor, the information gathered from search engines will be limited at best.

Why is it located in my Civ VI installation directory, then?

QTWebEngine is a web view component. It's used by the launcher to render the web content. Sometimes it seems to go nuts.

Hey, thanks for your response. It's understandable they have a few things to iron out with the launcher yet. Now that I know a memory leak can happen, I'm going to make sure to terminate the process manually when I am done with my games. The game itself still feels more or less bug free, and well optimized. I've only had a small handful of crashes over the past couple years.

What the ♥♥♥♥? Exactly the same process is in 5 civ and he just went crazy and started eating my RAM like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. The problem is that I didn't even run 5 civs at this point!
