Custom Worldbuilder maps crash on launch - How to fix this?
So im trying to test out the worldbuilder and I cannot get my maps to work for the life of me.

Ive made several test maps with just some basic terrain, saved it, tried to play them and they always crash on the leader loading screen and a pop up says that something went wrong with a startup script and to check the lua.log

I have the world builder enabled in the appoptions (value of 1) and I made sure the map wasnt dependent on any mods etc...

How do i fix this? I followed their instructions to a T on the official livestream and they were able to test/play their new custom map right after making with no issues. I have all mods disabled just in case as well.

not sure if it matters, but, I dont have gathering storm at all so I use the standard ruleset.

it seems that it is the advanced settings that bug the backup, because it is enough to modify an existing map with the advanced settings so that it does not work anymore.

I am having the same problem and then some. A map I made prior to the Sept. update works just fine even though I had preset starting positions.

I've since made 2 maps post-Sept. update (I had the flu and lots of time on my hands) and I get the same error as @kenneth_toles2002 but no obvious error in the file.

The name of my first map is available in the World Builder area when I try to create a game, but the other map is labeled "Untitled" and "small" even though it's a huge map. When I open the map it's listed as small in the preview under "Game Options" even though I made it as a huge "Empty map."

Furthermore, after I had put in all the resources, when I opened the map in World Builder again, the resources were all over the place: Jade in the ocean, furs on hills, etc. - as if the game just shifted everything a few hexes to the right.

If using preset starting positions is there problem, is there anyway to reverse this? I don't want to have to remake these maps....

Anybody have any luck? I can't make a custom map work at all even if I do literally nothing but create the map and immediately exit without changing anything at all from the default generation.

same issue for me. wasted 2 hours editing earth map with starting locaitons and city states for nothing :(

I had the same issue, but I have found a fix. When you add civs and city states you have to ensure that all the AI's/Players have a starting location. You have to make sure everyone has a starting location.
When you create the game and choose the map you MUST got to advance settings and make sure the city state number equals to how many you have on the map, and AI's as well.

Good to know if that's a valid workaround. Would really prefer random start points, though.

I am experiencing the issue described above. I have tried the fix described above by Bandito-75, but that has not resolved the issue.

One additional bit of information that may or may not be related. In the person editor, the "ANY" choice continually forced it to be "RANDOM", unlike as was explained on Worldbuilder video.

I did have the same problem after editing with advanced settings. It went away after loading up the world in the editor again, saving without enabling advanced mode and overwriting the savegame. The changes i had made before in advanced mode were sill there but now the map would load

This worked for me.

How does one do this? I didn't chose any spots on my map and assumed it was always random. Is it in advanced settings?

IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE-

I was having this issue as well but I went back to the map builder and changed all the land masses into different continents instead of having them all the same continent. After I did that I tried again and it worked just fine.
