A Note for Windows 8 Users

Attention Windows 8.1 x64 Users:

During development and testing, it’s come to our attention that there are some very important Windows KB updates for this version of the Operating System. Instead of including the 800MB for all users, we instead wrote this supplemental information Article.

How to check if you have the KB installed

If you keep up-to-date with your Windows Updates you should be all set! But, in case you haven’t, you can check if this is installed when you go into "Add Remove Programs" in Windows 8.1. Along the left side, there’s a feature to view your "Installed Windows Updates." This list is pretty long, but if you are able to see KB2919355 (800 megs) and KB2919442 (about 10 megs), then you’re good to go!

Where do I download these?

If you don't have these, here are the Microsoft links for the two System Updates we are referring to.

NOTE: Even though the KB number is newer, this one should be installed first

NOTE: This will download about 4 files, and there is a specific order on which these need to be installed.

Because nVidia and Microsoft can't seem to allow my videocard to work with the Win 10 update - perhaps snide comments would better be left to twitter and not on these pages.

Okay, not sure if this will fix it for everyone, but for me it fixed when I went into my civ 6 folder (C: >> Program Files (x86) >> Steam >> steamapps >> common >> Sid Meier's Civilization VI) and searched exe, ran DXSETUP, vc_redist.x64, and vcredist.x64. I'm sure only one or two of those actually fixed it but hopefully this will help some people who already had KB2919355 and KB2919442 updates installed.

Yeah, I'm having this issue too - Windows Update isn't updating itself, and nome the download links that people have provided are actually working. Guess we're pretty screwed.

the amount of ppl that have windows 8 vs the amount of people that care about 800megs.. where one side, the game wont work, and for the rest, still do, i wonder what the reasonable choice would be. fix this.

If Windows UPdate isnt working you've got bigger problems with your OS

I have managed to get it working once, refuse to turn off PC in case it doesn't work again.

£50 game from a respected developer shouldn't discover a massive compatibility on launch day. People should keep things up-to-date, but you can't really be programming and building a game, and even relying upon, an optional service update.

Hi everyone, like most of you I have also problem to run CIV VI. I have found executive file for civ on my computer....C/Program Files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/Base/Binaries/Win64Steam....Civilization VI (exe)
When I ran this file (icon) I get answer that....
"The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".
I have win 8.1 x 64

I have solve this problem, my civ 6 works fine. I have downlowded pack for my system 8.1( there is few to choose) https://support.microsoft.com/pl-pl/kb/2999226
