What does"invalid platform" mean
When I try to install the game, I get the error message "An error occurred while installing Sid Meier's Civilization VI (invalid platform)" Why am I getting this?

64 bit is required. Win 10 is not required.

If you are on a 32 bit version of Windows it is why. Else I have no idea.

Probably means you have an 32 bit OS..and the game only runs on a 64 bit OS. Platform means you OS.

I'm on the Windows 10 fast insider's ring, and 64-bit. Today's update elicits this same error message. Civ 6 worked fine earlier tonight, noticed a new update for Windows, installed it, and boom. invalid platform error. I've already reported to MS, because I'm pretty sure it's their problem since neither Steam nor Civ 6 updated today. Stay away from Win 10 build 16193.

Same here on 16193 64-bit. Was working fine the day before, but now it's an "invalid platform" after the update.

Because your computer can't run it, you need a 64 bit computer to do it, My Windows 8.1 64 bit Alienware can run it, the only way my 32 bit Laptop can run it is I have to stream it through my 64 bit Alienware.

Just an FYI since the other thread about this issue was deleted.
1. 2K Games refuses to look into this, blaming Windows Insider release.
2. Microsoft Insiders feedback ticket is open and a bug has been created, awaiting feedback.
3. Strongly suspect this is a problem with how 2K Games set up their version compatibilty checking in Steam since this is only affecting folks playing this game on Steam.

That's how things stand currently.

Even if something is changed in how Windows will present which platform and version it provides (because if software doesn't work anymore on a new beta version, something's changed there) then now is the time (until it actually releases as a stable release) to fix that.

I find your wording rather strange. There is no blaming and there is no problem with version checking.
Currently MS released a new beta version of Windows. Either that has a bug (not really strange for beta software) or it has a change with how it presents its platform and version information to software.
So then there is no problem with how Civ6 checks which platform is used (it works on current stable releases). It might need a change according to upcoming changes (assuming it is not a bug, but an actual documented change for how Windows presents information). If the latter, it will be addressed in a patch of course. Either by Steam (since that is also capable of providing platform information to games) or Firaxis/2K.

Latest WIN10 update - Build 16199 and the issue still exists.
