It came out in Sept or Oct of2016, so it hasn't been 8 years yet.
Well, we all know there have been staffing probs since the pandemic.

And since obviously everyone who worked on the last 2 games needed to be fired...

You probably need to practise your maths, bud.

Even if Civ7 would come out within the next year. You would have to wait for several addons, dlcs and patches before it becomes playable or reaches the same content as Civ6.
Shaffner, IMO you are right about the add-ons. My question is, would the game develop better and faster if a bare bones version (relatively speaking)(usually referred to as "early releases" or something of the sort for other games) is issued at a reasonable price and having the playing community give feed back on additional needs, desires, and/or improvements? Or would it be better to let the developers proceed without this input and take longer to get something released?
Personally, I would just as soon wait for the developers to get out a good first release without player input unless it was to issue a pre-release version to selected players/modders such as Sukritact, JNR, Albro, Windfly, Phantagonsit, Deliverator, p0kiehl, infixo, Sailer Cat, etc. and seek their input as game development progresses. (Please forgive me if I have left your name out as one of the modders. I realize there are many other outstanding modders, but those I listed I have had extremely good reliable mods which I have used.

Please look into Cities Skylines 2. They released it in October last year and everyone hates it because it feels like it's too rushed and just not good. Cities Skylines is still a solid game though. You just have to be patient with the developers or else it just turns into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

slowbrainedd, I can't argue with you, and furthermore, I have to go with your experience with City Skylines 2. What about the alternative I suggested and having some of the experienced modders in on the development like Sukritact, etc.? Would that help?

I guess not ; not everyone is a fan of these modders ; in fact not everyone is looking for the same things in the game and in mods. They'll probably make alpha testing then beta testing, but with a larger audience I think. These mods in particular aren't very interesting for the game developpement perspective imho.
Evrach, I hear you. For me, I'm perfectly content to wait on the developers to produce something and go from there. Also, want to thank you again for the help you have provided me in the past answering questions I have had.
Cities Skylines 2 has the problem, that Cities Skylines 1 exists. That's usually what makes successors look bad in comparison, when in reality the first game including DLCs simply had like 3 times the development time. But when we compare the release versions, then it's usually not that far off and that will most likely happen with civ7 as well. It will definitely be playable even at release, though obviously the expectations should be adapted to a newly released game and not to a civ7 with 5 years worth of DLC additions right at release day.

Though time wise yeah, i would guess we might get one this or next year and the NF pass maybe being a test for what they could add for the civ7 base game, but it's hard to predict these things in general.

Exactly this. Just remember the release version of Civ5 - to describe it as barebones would be hyperbole.
The value proposition here is tricky, so an initial disappointment of legacy users seems almost inevitable to me.

yeah, every civ game has been like that since 4. The vanilla version comes out with a ton of missing features and by the end of the dlcs, its a super solid game

Funny how Civ III was the opposite XD Great game at release and very crappy expansions. Remember Play the World's release. That was a real joke.

I'll only buy civ7 if they have 3 Elenor of Aquitains...the blue and pink versions are nice, but i feel we really need a green version too.

Yeah. I think the expansions had some important UI upgrades, but overall detracted from game.
