Bypass the launcher ?
Try it but i got just a popup " this game needs Steam. Please makesure that Steam client is running, logged on Steam account that has this game in library, then run the game again. The game will now exit" ...
I read somewhere that the problem is similar for mac user
I have got the same issue... Have you found the solution ? Thank you
edit : I'm on W11
no. Ithink we must wait the patch to correct the lancher
I assume everyone has already verified files?
yes of course
Odd I always heard the game actually works better on Linux. All I can do is confirm that it still working just fine on this old windows ten machine.
I'm having the same issue, any updates would be appreciated.
Ok, for everybody using Linux: this game works beautifully under Linux (including the 2K launcher!). Unfortunately, due to a certain historical event, you'll need to make a specific change under Steam to get it working perfectly.

In short, you now need to enable Proton (Wine); that will allow Steam to download the proper executable and run it. There are a couple of ways to do this; I do it by right-clicking on the Civ VI entry in my library list, click on "Properties" in the pop-up menu to bring up the Properties window, then select "Compatibility" on the left. This will allow you to choose to "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool", and then you can choose a version of Proton. Pretty much any version will work, including "experimental" (which is what I normally choose).

The long answer is that, many years ago, the company Aspyr created a "native" Linux port for Civ VI (as well as a Mac port). This worked quite well; but the Wine / Proton project has been getting better and better at running pretty much all Windows programs on Linux. In the last few years, it has gotten so good that it can usually run the latest Windows updates before porting companies like Aspyr can update their own products.

Aspyr has apparently thrown in the towel at this point; about two years ago, they tried to push out an update that was full of bugs, made two or three attempts to fix the bugs (that each failed in a different way), and then just rolled their port back to the last working version and told everyone who asked that there would be no new updates.

Unfortunately, Aspyr is still regarded as the "official" source for Civ VI on Linux, even though they have unofficially abandoned their product. Presumably, they just can't compete against Proton at this point; and I guess that probably isn't a bad business decision. I just wish they'd publicly announce that Wine / Proton is now the correct way to run the game...
Wath's the shame, the only way to play this game is to activate Proton8.0.5 and lanch option :
eval $( echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base\/Binaries\/Win64Steam\/CivilizationVI'/" )
The Linux app idoesn't run correctly.

The so-called "Linux app" is, in fact, just the Windows binary with all calls to Windows libraries rerouted to Linux libraries, which is exactly what Proton does. Aspyr was the first to apply this process to Civ VI, but Proton currently does it better.

BTW, no need to bypass the 2K launcher any more. It is leagues better today than when it launched last year.

Also, Proton 8.0.5 certainly works, but so do most other versions. :)
i know
Proton V6 crash the lancher but the game still works
V7 and v8 works ( i do not test Lan )
Béta and experimental doesn't work at all

Hmm. I've just tested 8.0-5 and Experimental, both are working just fine for me. (I haven't tested the 6 line in years, so I can't say if something has changed there, but it worked before...) And yeah, no problems with the 2K Launcher since last year, on any of the Proton versions I have tested.

Honestly, people should not be having so much trouble on Linux. :) This game runs beautifully.
Copernicus would the switch to proton help with other games not in the civ line?
