Which civs/leaders do you consider "S-tier"
Depending on your personal pålay style which civs/leaders do you see as "S-tier" and why?

I probably miss some which I haven't played in a while:

- Babylon: Jumping to later era research by getting eureka (mining->apprenticeship->industrialisation->Ruhr valley-> flight. Having flight when everyone else has bow and arrow is a bit OP :)

- Gran Colombia: +1 movement and Commendante General (which can statck with great general) is good enough. Then add their UU LLanero which is a better and cheaper cavalry.

- Kongo/Nizinga: A bit of surprise they were so good +10% all yields same continent + a lot of yields from great works (fram relics from martyrs or cultists)

- Mali Easy religious vcictory (assuming yoiu get good desert tiles)

Depends on if it's Single Player, or Multiplayer, too. Some leaders are bad at SP, but extremely good at MP.

For me, my "S Tier" SP would be:

Rome (Trajan): Free Monuments with each new city (faster border expansion and Civic progression), instant roads, decent aqueduct, and Legionaries.

Gran Columbia: Everything you listed, plus can promote without ending their turn, so you can save promotions for insta-heals when at war.

The Netherlands: Can get insane Industrial Zone and Campus adjacency bonuses. Polders are excellent if you have a lot of lake tiles, their UU Frigate is almost as powerful as a Battleship and passes on it's powerful ranged attack to your Walls.

England ("Age of Steam" Vicki): If playing a water heavy map, cheap harbors which eventually leads to more traders. +2 Production to all Strategics, which works very well with "God of Craftsmen" +1 Production and +1 Faith for Strategics, if you don't take "God of the Sea" instead. +10% production in cities for each Indy Zone building, turning ALL cities with a Workshop and Factory into essentially Ruhr Valley cities.

Khmer: Excellent Aqueduct, amazing Temple Replacement (Prasat), decent UU, high population cities, culture and faith powerhouse. With Monumentality Golden Age bonus in any of the first 3 eras (aside from the Ancient), can literally print settlers and builders.

I tend to play Huge, "Continents and Islands" maps, so The Netherlands is the one I lay the most, followed by AoS Vicki. That said, IMO, Khmer is by far the best in the game. :meepdrool:

Trajan Rome: A free monument in each city early game is an insane power spike. You can get a faster pantheon, faster early civics like 'Agoge' to pump out your ancient era unique units and having an automatic road built between your cities, whether settled or conquered is also powerful.

Korea: Just so easy to snowball with science and your strong unique unit guarantees you can just turtle and win.

Khmer: Insane growth and a strong unique unit. Can expand tall and wide.

Gorgo and Pericles are like a hint below S tier for me but both insanely strong if played to their strengths.

Peter Russia: S tier if you get the tundra pantheon coupled with production from holy sites. More of a one dimensional Civ early that can snowball and win with culture or religion easily.

In unmodded game, S-tier would be :

- Babylon
- Both Byzantium
- Russia
- Ptolemaic Cleopatra
- Gengis Khan Mongolia
- Portugal
- Scythia

I think Caesar's Rome ability to gain extra gold for raiding barbarian camps is very underrated. I play Emperor on marathon most of the time and farm a few barb camps as long as possible and net 3,000-4,000 every seven turns then put the money towards buying tiles and buildings in newly found cities

Byzantine is a faith based power house, and combining the UA Taxis with Crusade and Tithe creates a very powerful war machine.

I actually love Ba Trieu's / Vietnam strategy, if you can get a good forest / jungle start. It is perfect for a "turtle" strategy if you want to hunker down and try to ignore conflict for a cultural or science victory. There are a lot of other good suggestions here, but I thought Vietnam could use a mention, too.

China, imo, is the best choice if you play the economic powerhouse.

im more a military player, and i have all dlc. i would rate for land maps Cesar would be top. nothing out does him on maps with lots of barbs.

Nubia is another s tier with her archer army. the power of a lot of archers before i used mods was insane. i could wage war with mostly archers and just a few melee. made the rest of the military units not needed.

Abraham Lincoln is op once you get the industrial zones going. the free units they give is enough to help with war on a big lvl.

Brazil on true earth maps is just wicked. before mods there was always be fire in the amazon, so the yields just grow and grow.

Persia, with the immortals acting like archers and melee, they can do some serious damage all around. they have made early war easy when i am him

Scythia, the double horse production helps to build military fast and overwhelm the enemy, pillage and raid.. also destroy them

Shaka of the Zulus. the corps and army's being earlier, and low cost of anti Calvary means you can field a force that can raid and fight back fast. if the anti Calvary is supported, they will not die fast. together all that makes him a fearsome one to play as for fighting.

I would conisder 'S-Tier' to be a leader who is awesome independent of any special circumstances (map size, map type, game speed, optional game modes, specialties of the map (being alone on an island, sitting among many other civs, etc.), opposing leaders/civs etc.).

Would you put anyone into 'S-Tier' with respect to that definition?
Bermag 3 月 22 日 上午 1:28
I think most civs/leaders are pretty dependant on map. Like Incas suck if they don't have access to (lot of) mountains. But Babylon and Gran Colombia are always good. Gran Colombia maybe not so good if they spawn alone on an island with none to conquer

Personally I like civs which give you bonus throughout the game. Both starting and late game. Sumeria for example is great early game. But if you are not able to make use of an early war cart rush and/or make good use of their unique buildings then they suck.

oh and to make Cesar op, even more, play on marathon, epic still works. but the gold you get from the barbs on the slowest setting will make you the richest one in the world by a long shot. think you get 400 or more per camp on marathon

You just have to open the game and click the 2k button on the bottom right of the main menu to create and link a 2k account to your steam account. I just got the game a couple weeks ago and was able to redeem Caesar. It shows up as additional content like mods and DLCs, you just might have to restart the game after linking accounts to get him to show up

If you're doing barbaian clans it's a little over 1000 per camp every 8 turns. Buying the max tiles every time you find a new city feels like playing the Shoeshine from V lol
