Tried it once or twice. For the achievements. Very unbalanced. Not fun at all. Never play with it since. Owls of Minerva seems clearly OP.
I tend to get fed up of using owls as they seem to always be the best choice when you have a free choice. Although if you are going for a domination victory with an early conquest sanguine pact can be just as good.
If you want to avoid owls try playing without city states.
The void singers are somewhat ok for a religeous or cultural civs, but it definitely takes away some flexibility regarding victory types compared to the owls.
Hermetic Order can be fun to play with, but sadly it's heavily dependant on lay lines. Though having the university generate engineer and merchant points is definitely the strongest unique building from the societes mode. Though i personally doesn't take them just for this single building, if i play somewhat serious.
And so far i've never felt like playing the sanguine pact. Might do that at some point for the memes in a stream some day, but i don't see, where this one is useful in any way, unless you're constantly waging war (and actually active ones and not a static war, where you just wait half the time do build stuff)
