How to play on Worldbuilder maps
I've just found a thread on reddit with the most helpful guide from a Hero called D-rok_Roxx, here's the quote:

Open up Worldbuilder.
If loading an already-created map, select "Load Map".
If creating a new map, select "New Map", making sure to choose the ruleset you intend to use when you play the game (Standard, Rise and Fall, or Gathering Storm), and then generate map.
Edit the map to your liking.
When done, in the top left corner, select the little feather icon.
A box will pop up. Select "Text".
In the column on the left, select "Map name".
In the field on the right (where it says "Text String"), name your map.
In the column on the left, select "Mod name".
In the field on the right (where it says "Text String"), name your mod.
Using the little red and gold X, close out the box.
At the top right of your screen, select the hamburger icon.
Select "SAVE MAP".
Name your saved map.
Select the green button at the bottom where it says "Save Map".
Select "BACK".
Exit to Main Menu.
Exit to Desktop.
Restart Civ 6.
Click on "Additional Content".
Select "Mods".
Sort By: Name.
Scrolling alphabetically, find your map mod.
If it's not already enabled, enable it.
Select "BACK".
Create a single player or multiplayer game, making sure to pick your Worldbuilder-created map.
Play a game of Civ 6 with your created map.
Thank D-rok_Roxx. :)
(Optional) Scold Firaxis/2K for allowing the process to remain so complicated.
