You just had to read a little further
Until today, the 2KLauncher folder was still in the game's install directory. Today's update removed it.
I struggle to find the part with "2kLauncherRemoved.txt", would you be so kind to post a link to your source? Above I linked to official 2k page, what explained manual steps to remove 2k launcher files, still on our rigs, past this update.
There were nothing to fix.
But we still got this "update" that do nothing, refuse to do go and prevent a game to start from steam library. You must use exe file from game folder directly to start a game.
The update did exactly what they said it would do, that's all I was pointing out.
Now I found it, thanks for clarification!
Honestly, I'm just finding out about all these problems people had with the launcher now, and I'm just kind of scratching my head as to what you all could have been doing incorrectly to have it cause you all so many problems.
Granted, it's a Civ game, so it's always going to have some bug or quirk I figure, but the sheer amount of issues you all seem to have, just has me kind of awestruck to the point where I wonder how much of it was just pebkac issues. No offence, truly. I am curious about it.
Over the entire time the game has been out, I've had it crash maybe... 20 times? Maybe? And these were generally all much further into the games progress, like is more typical with 'good running' versions of civ. Note, I'm being kind of loose about what is a 'good' running game of civ. Again, bug fest usually. Beyond Earth is probably the best example of it.
Ultimately, doesn't really matter to me that the launcher is gone. Or that it was there to begin with, aside from the data collection part some talk about. That part is nice to see go away, generally. But the issues people have otherwise, I kind of have to ask what they were doing wrong to cause so many issues.
Then again, maybe I'm just lucky. But I tend to also go into the games ini files to fix whatever Sid couldn't do right the first time. I mean, most of the bugs and crashes that civ games tend to have, usually revolve around either an incorrect setting in the ini files, or incorrect permissions for things like file access for the game files. (I'm not kidding, it's such an easy fix. They just have to stop putting the game into the steam folder situated in the program files folder, which is automatically locked down permissions wise. It is so dumb. These two things make even Beyond Earth playable, usually. Sometimes still have some issues... but much less than before.)
