How to activate Gathering Storm?

When I first bought the game, it asked me each time I opened the game whether I wanted to play Gathering Storm or the base game. I chose the base game as I wanted to learn it before trying the DLC. Now I'm ready to try it and the option no longer appears. I just loads the base game. I can not find it in the Additional Content menu or anywhere else.

Check your Steam library and see if it is installed.

If you have Gathering Storm, it should show up under the Additional Content -> Mods menu. If it's not there, something tricky went wrong.

If Gathering Storm (the DLC/expansion/mod) is active, there should be a dropdown option in "Create Game" which allows you to choose the ruleset - play under "Standard Rules", "Rise and Fall", or "Gathering Storm". Some civs/leaders will not be available in the "Standard Rules"; this includes all of the civs and leaders that were directly part of the expansions.

So in other words, you don't need to deactivate GS to play without its changes.

That is not a question the game asks. What it likely asked you was how new to the game you are, to set up the system that advises you best compared to just how new you are.

If that were the case, what would you suggest to rectify the current situation?

Look under choose ruleset in the start ,menu
