Civilization VI Deluxe Edition versus Age of Empires Anniversary Edition?
Hello! I'm not familiar with either of these games, but want to get into the genre, if they are even comparable. Civilization VI seems to be MUCH popular, so I'll probably end up getting the DLC version while it is on sale. Do most people also play Age of Empires as well that have this game? Age of Empires looks very pricey with all of the DLC for older versions of the game, so I'm hesitant to buy it at all, given the older version is the most popular. Thoughts on getting them both? The Anniversary Version of Age of Empires is like $70, compared tot he $20 of Civilization VI. Or should I just get Civilization VI?

Age of Empires 2 is an amazing game (as is Civ). It's currently only £7.49 and the definitive edition. Civilization 6 is currently £2.49. Both are worth trying. Civilization feels more like a big complex boardgame whilst Age of Empire feels from like a mission based RTS, akin to the classics. i.e. Command and Conquer / Dune 2 / Warcraft 1,2,3.

Thank you for the response. Do you own the DLC for both? A friend of mine is really into Age of Empires, which is why I was thinking of getting the Anniversary Collection because it has all of AoE 2's DLC on sale. I'm not sure if I just buy the game if it will subtract it out of the bundle if I decide I like it, and I'm itching for some new games without much to look forward to releasing.

I own Civ 6 on Epic, only the base game. Happened to be on the forum as thinking of buying the Platinum Edition which is more than enough DLC for me. With Age of Empires 2 I have the base game. I don't need anymore. I've never had the inclination to play later AOE or any dlc for it. I enjoy playing the main game single player. In your case, it's slightly different as you have a person you know to play against.

For me though if I was playing against someone, I'm not sure if I would need the anniversary edition, as how much AOE do I really need! That's purely personal but food for thought :-)

If your friend is into RTS and AOE, worth picking up Command and Conquer or some of the stronghold games. All really cheap as alternative options. My attention span requires a change so not so interested in the dlc :-)

If you do get Civ 6, I would get the anthology (everything).

out if interest, why? I'm currently look at Platinum which is probably enough for me, but what is it that appeals to you for the anthology?

I like everything in the antholgy. Each item adds content to the game.

Imho you cannot compare an RTS to a TBS.

Do you own both games? What do you like better?

Both are nice but it's like apples and oranges. I like Civ much better.

Okay, thanks. The Civ bundle is much cheaper, so I'll go with that to start. $20 apple versus $80 orange :)
